This role provides support to attorneys in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice with special emphasis on Supreme Court and Appellate practice.

Responsibilities

Proofread, edit, and cite check fact and legal citations in memoranda (appellate and Supreme Court)

Check appellate and Supreme Court cites including joint appendices

Create page-proof and final versions of briefs

Understand how to research court rules in preparation for filings and coordinate with the firm’s Docket team to ensure all filings strictly adhere to relevant rules and deadlines

Use litigation research tools like Westlaw, Lexis, and PACER

Act as liaison with the firm’s Document Services team and other departments to coordinate tables of contents and tables of authorities, final formatting, and specialized printing of briefs, per guidelines in various jurisdictions

Help attorneys prepare for oral arguments by gathering/cataloging pertinent authorities

Coordinate with case team and e-discovery personnel on all aspects of data collection

Manage complex case files; review discovery materials by performing relevance, confidentiality, and privilege reviews

Create discovery templates

Prepare for depositions and create witness files

Analyze and summarize documents, interrogatories, and other factual information, including sophisticated or technical information related to legal issues

Conduct factual research to compile information regarding parties, experts, and judges; perform due diligence research by searching Secretary of State information, corporate profiles, prior litigation, recent press and social media postings

Prepare key fact chronologies and create demonstrative exhibits such as charts, graphs and maps

Attend and provide support at trial, which includes: monitoring documents and evidence; assuring presence of witnesses; preparing and monitoring visual aids; taking notes on testimony; tracking of exhibits introduced and marked into evidence; digesting trial transcripts; interacting with clients, witnesses, experts, court clerks, and vendors; mentoring junior paralegal trial team members

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required

Paralegal certificate from ABA approved paralegal program preferred

At least eight years of substantive litigation experience as a Litigation Paralegal in a law firm setting preferred

Trial, arbitration, or mediation experience preferred

Appeals experience

Proficiency with iManage, Microsoft Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, and PACER

Knowledge of Relativity and general database management

Working knowledge with legal case management software such as OPUS 2 preferred

Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors

Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm

Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines with shifting priorities

Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative

Strong customer service skills, able to anticipate needs

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects

Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion

Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills

The typical pay scale for this position is between $102,900 and $136,000 although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
