Summary
The Code Compliance Investigator performs a wide range of professional-level investigative, technical, and analytical duties in support of the Transit Security and Passenger Safety Department. The Code Compliance Investigator conducts follow-up investigations related to crime incidents within MTS jurisdiction, coordinates criminal case preparation and submission, supports coordination and execution of code compliance enforcement on MTS property, responds to major crime incidents to provide investigative support to Code Compliance Inspectors, and evaluates and acts upon crime data, crime reports, and other information. This position does not hold peace officer authority. This role also serves as the direct liaison to regional law enforcement agencies, the City Attorney\'s Office, and District Attorney\'s Office, supports the MTS Professional Standards Manager with gathering information regarding customer complaints and allegations of employee misconduct, and supports the MTS Crime Analyst with preparation and dissemination of crime bulletins and data. Essential Functions / Duties
Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes and code violations within the scope/limitations of MTS authority (836.5 PC). Gathers and updates information on criminal suspect activity and other periodic crime activity. Supports Law Enforcement with criminal investigations and field operations. Prepares criminal cases and gathers evidence for submission to appropriate prosecutorial branches. Prepares detailed reports and maintains accurate records. Receives and responds to requests for information from the public, departmental personnel, or representatives from outside agencies. Responds to major crime scenes and provides investigative support to field personnel and law enforcement. Assists with analyzing data to direct effective deployment and strategy development of patrol personnel. Acts as direct liaison with law enforcement agencies, the City Attorney\'s Office, and District Attorney\'s Office. Supports MTS leadership with gathering information for complaints and allegations of employee misconduct. Serves as subject matter expert in investigative court testimony. Develops and implements strategies against recognized criminal trends. Supports and assists law enforcement investigators directly in the collection, compilation, and analysis of confidential information regarding complex criminal investigations. Provides periodic administrative and management reports. Provides training on criminal investigations, evidence collection and report writing. Provides ongoing training to Code Compliance Inspectors. Accesses data from a variety of law enforcement and other sources and prepares reports to assist in criminal investigations or to make intelligence assessments. Completes special projects. Support the MTS Legal Department with through administrative process from banning subjects from SDMTS. Additional Duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations; knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques used in simple and complex criminal investigations, knowledge of criminal justice system functions and processes and crime-related terminology; ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; knowledge of methods and techniques used in researching, compiling, sorting, evaluating and analyzing statistical, theoretical, and factual criminal and offender information; ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions; skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms and reports; knowledge of the Windows and the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire; ability to solve problems independently and make effective decisions; ability to exercise discretion and good judgment when applying and interpreting policies and procedures; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, customers and the general public; understanding of government organization functions, services, and interjurisdictional/interagency relationships; ability to represent MTS in a positive way while working with the public; knowledge of evidence collection techniques and chain of custody practice; ability to provide professional level support in risk management program areas. Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (up to 15 pounds). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work may require more than 8 hours per day or an irregular work week. Duties will be performed primarily in an office environment and may require travel to external locations and agencies. Experience / Education / Certificates / Licenses
Possess a bachelor\'s degree or an advanced degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field. Requisite knowledge, experience, skills and abilities may be substituted for the degree requirement. A minimum of three years law enforcement detective/investigative experience. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver\'s license. General
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check. Salary / Benefits
The anticipated starting pay for this position is between $82,000 and $105,000. This range represents the expected starting salaries for new hires, typically within the lower to mid-portion of the overall salary range, which encompasses the full potential earnings for the role. The position is in salary grade #10, with a minimum of $81,963 and a maximum of $116,388. Salary offers are based on factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant experience, while considering internal equity and budget constraints.
