Sr Ultrasound Acoustic Engineer

for Shockwave Medical Inc. located in

Santa Clara, CA . This is a fully on-site position. We are developing the next generation of smarter, less invasive, more personalized treatments and pioneering the development and commercialization of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) to treat complex calcified cardiovascular disease. The Shockwave Medical portfolio aims to establish a new standard of care for medical device treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through its differentiated and proprietary local delivery of sonic pressure waves for the treatment of calcified plaque. Position Overview

The Sr. Ultrasound Acoustic Engineer will use technical skills in the characterization and development of innovative products to treat peripheral, coronary, and heart valve diseases. The role provides leadership in creating and optimizing our current and future generation of products and is integral to the design, testing, and implementation of acoustic-based systems. Essential Job Functions

Develop and optimize tools, software, and other technologies to support acoustic testing and analysis Simulate acoustic propagation field and energy distribution Prototype and develop designs, processes, and acoustic test methods in support of new product designs Support procurement of new materials to ensure state-of-the-art acoustic lab operations Serve as SME on cross-functional team projects to support acoustic characterization and design decisions Perform and optimize acoustic measurements using data acquisition systems, hydrophones, high speed cameras, and other equipment Perform data processing and analysis to generate reports and presentations for all levels of management Participate in system-level technical design reviews to ensure all design inputs and user needs are addressed Enhance the intellectual property position of the company via invention disclosures and patent applications Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies and medical/technical developments related to the company’s products Interface with R&D, Regulatory, Quality, IT and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure acoustic lab operations are compliant with company policies and regulatory standards Support regulatory reports for FDA, IEC, UL, et al. Ensure proper documentation consistent with the company’s quality system and align activities with quality policy and objectives Ensure lab notebooks and component/assembly documentation for new acoustic systems are timely and accurate Support company goals, policies and procedures, Quality Systems, and FDA regulations Other duties as assigned Qualifications

Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines with 3 years’ experience in therapeutic ultrasound research or a PhD (preferred). Ultrasound-based medical device product development is highly preferred. May serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and may mentor others. Experience with acoustic characterization and optimization of ultrasound prototypes or commercial ultrasound devices (preferred) Expertise in ultrasound physics, signal and image processing, especially in algorithm and acoustic tools development (in compliance with IEC and FDA standards) Strong understanding of nonlinear acoustics and therapeutic ultrasound modalities Experience with acoustic and/or thermal simulation and measurements Skilled with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or other programming languages for data acquisition and signal processing; able to perform statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab or R) Experience in medical devices using shock waves or lithotripsy therapy is a strong plus. Experience with SolidWorks is a strong plus. Research experience in lithotripsy and acoustic cavitation is desired. Effective communication skills with all levels of management Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities Operate as a team or independently with flexibility to changing requirements Employee may be required to lift objects up to 25lbs Pay and Benefits

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

$103,000 - $165,600 . Subject to plan terms, employees may participate in company-sponsored programs for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other benefits, retirement plans, and time off benefits.
