Houlihan Lokey’s Portfolio Valuation (PV) practice is well recognized in the alternative asset valuation community. The practice has earned industry awards and supports valuation services for hedge funds, private equity funds, direct lending funds, business development companies, and other asset managers. The team provides valuations of illiquid debt, equity, and complex securities to meet investor and regulatory reporting needs. Scope
Within our Portfolio Valuation practice, clients include many of the world’s largest hedge funds, private equity funds, direct lending funds, and other asset managers. We advise on valuations of illiquid debt, equity, and complex securities, drawing on our transaction experience and market knowledge to meet investor and regulatory requirements. The role offers exposure to a variety of valuation challenges across asset classes and industries. Role
As an Associate in our Portfolio Valuation Practice, you will work on engagement teams that typically include at least one Managing Director, Vice President, Associate, and Financial Analysts. Primary activities include valuing debt, equity, and structured securities; presenting analyses to review committees and clients; drafting client deliverables; constructing and reviewing valuation and financial models; performing financial statement, industry, and other assessments; attending due diligence meetings; communicating with client personnel; supporting sales and marketing initiatives; and guiding financial analysts. Responsibilities Support portfolio valuation teams providing valuations of illiquid debt and equity securities for fair value reporting to investors. Assist in preparation of fee proposals, scoping discussions, pitch materials, and internal pricing memoranda. Participate in deal team discussions, prepare information request lists, and draft client deliverables. Review client investment memoranda, board presentations, debt and equity agreements, and financial models to understand the securities being analyzed. Direct the efforts of financial analysts and review their work to ensure accurate, timely deliverables. Review and compile published financial information across industries using sources such as public filings, press releases, and Bloomberg data. Assist in preparation of pitch materials and information request lists to clients. Participate in due diligence meetings, communicating with clients and addressing auditor questions. Identify relevant comparable public companies and M&A transactions using S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg and apply appropriate classification methods. Research economic, industry, and investment attributes of securities; compile statistical summaries and develop financial ratios for presentation. Construct and review valuation analyses (guideline public companies, guideline precedent transactions, DCF) using Houlihan Lokey models; present results to committees and clients. Perform financial statement analysis and other quantitative/qualitative assessments. Assist with internal presentations and close-out procedures; coordinate with internal teams on engagement invoices and files. Engage with internal/external legal counsel as required and assist with marketing initiatives for clients. Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree (Finance is a plus) Minimum 3-5+ years of valuation experience Strong analytical abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Strong understanding of financial statement analysis with the ability to work through key assumptions and limitations. Fundamental understanding of financial valuation theory, methodologies, and applications Strong knowledge of Excel modeling Ability to work cooperatively with team members and independently in a fast-paced environment Excellent work ethic; experience at Big Four or an Independent Valuation Advisory firm is a plus Compensation and Benefits Houlihan Lokey offers a competitive total compensation package, which may include discretionary incentive compensation. The posted salary range is $100,000.00–$160,000.00, with actual starting pay varying by qualifications, skills, location, and line of business.
