Part - time ARC Education Specialist

SUMMARY : Assists with the management of education programs and the animal collection associated with the ARC, including supervision of large diverse groups of volunteers and interns; day-to-day operations and all records associated with this operation; and ensures provision of the needs of the collection by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Implements and supervises the public education programs involving ARC staff and volunteers. Supervises and trains interns and volunteers including associated record keeping. Coordinates all ARC youth programs, functions and records. Functions as ZooMobile teacher and Wildlife Theatre presenter. Develops public and volunteer programs. Determines animal diets and feeding schedules and communicates information to volunteers. Coordinates all aspects of day-to-day animal husbandry. Develops and maintains all animal records, including medical, behavior, feeding, and training. Coordinates the training schedules and animal behaviors. Performs or oversees medical treatments as required. Makes minor and emergency repairs to equipment in the ARC. Ensures the daily maintenance and operations of the facility. Insures that safety practices and protocols are observed by interns and volunteers. Designs and builds displays within existing facility. Assists with planning and the care of landscaped areas. Functions as Zoo spokesperson as required. Provides relief coverage for ARC Supervisor. Supervises special events presentations that utilize ARC resources. Assists with research projects and data entry. Assists with reports and provides clerical support. Interacts with Zoo visitors courteously and offers proper attention at all times. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Preferred Qualifications : Experience training animals for show production and presentation, especially raptors, corvids and felines. EDUCATION : Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university EXPERIENCE : Minimum of one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum one year animal husbandry experience. Experience managing volunteers and supervising youth volunteers. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Valid Driver’s License. SALARY RANGE : $29.88 – $36.19/hour This position is subject to the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement with Freight Checkers, Clerical Employees and Helpers Local 856.
