Overview
Attorney Advisor role at DC Department of Human Resources. This position is located in the District of Columbia Board of Elections (BOE), Office of the General Counsel. The BOE’s mission is to enfranchise eligible residents, conduct elections, and assure the integrity of the electoral process as mandated by both federal and local laws. Duties And Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of assigned administrative and judicial proceedings on behalf of BOE, including research, drafting pleadings, and oral argument. Perform thorough and comprehensive legal research on assigned questions of law or policy using various methods and tools (texts, online tools, legal databases, etc.). Draft memoranda, proposed orders, legislation, rulemaking, and other legal documents for adoption by BOE officials who exercise final authority. Assist with review of legal documents from colleagues. Provide expert legal advice and participate in developing BOE policies, directives, and procedures concerning administrative matters. Keep abreast of judicial, agency, and other changes in laws and regulations related to the agency s functions and recommend appropriate actions to the General Counsel. Develop, coordinate, and execute special projects as assigned by the General Counsel. Attend and participate in meetings, hearings before committees of the Council of the District of Columbia and Congress pertaining to proposed laws or legislation affecting existing laws; represent the agency and assess relevant trends in other jurisdictions. Perform other duties as assigned. Education And Experience
Must possess a LLB or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) at the time of appointment. At least five (5) years of post J.D. professional legal experience. Experience in election administration or advising public officials or agencies is preferred, particularly within a regulatory election context. Licensure/Certification
Must be an active member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar or be eligible to waive in and be admitted into the D.C. Bar within 360 days of their appointment. An appointee to the Legal Service position shall remain a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar during employment. Work Environment
Work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office setting. Some walking, handling, and carrying of light to moderately heavy objects (such as boxes of records, briefs, cases, and exhibits) is required. Promotion Potential: None. Other Significant Facts

Monday – Friday 8:15 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Collective Bargaining:
