Responsibilities
Conducts evaluations and re-evaluations for students as requested or warranted
Acts as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process
Administers psychological assessments (IQ, personality, and achievement) as needed
Articulates test results to parents and MDT members in clear, understandable language, attending to cultural sensitivity
Delivers group and individual therapy sessions as indicated on student IEPs
Maintains progress notes as required by Friendship Public Charter School regulations
Makes recommendations for purchasing assessment materials to ensure the psychologist is equipped with state-of-the-art resources
Keeps abreast of advances in diagnostic materials
Maintains IEPs, including contact logs and reports progress accordingly to parents and team members
Interprets IQ, personality, and achievement tests to parents and team members
Collaborates with teachers, parents, and school personnel on learning, social, and behavior concerns
Assesses and evaluates behavior, skills, emotions, and goals across the student population
Provides direct counseling services for students and families
Researches the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management procedures
Takes part in planning and implementing interventions as appropriate
Teaches lessons on topics such as parenting skills, learning strategies, and related areas as appropriate to healthy schools
Qualifications
Experience in the role preferred
Master’s degree from an accredited school or university in educational or clinical psychology, including 42 semester hours of graduate coursework and 500 hours of successful field experience in a school setting under supervision of a certified school psychologist
Must be eligible to acquire or possess DC certification as a psychologist
Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
Ability to articulate test results to parents who are not familiar with psychological tests
Exceptional attention to detail; well organized
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-need environment
Commitment to servicing students from minority and/or lower socioeconomic backgrounds
