As our first dedicated Design Systems Lead, you’ll shape and scale NinjaTrader’s design system. Reporting to the VP of Design, you’ll assess the current design landscape, define a roadmap for rapid adoption, and advocate for best practices across design, product, and engineering teams. You’ll combine technical acumen with strong visual design judgment and clear communication to drive consistency, efficiency, and quality across product experiences. In this role you will: Audit the current design system state, identify gaps, and prioritize opportunities Define and communicate an actionable roadmap for rapid adoption across design and engineering teams Establish robust design token architecture, guidelines, and workflows for cross‑platform implementation (web, mobile, desktop) Create and document high‑quality, reusable UI components and interaction patterns with accessibility in mind Educate and support designers, engineers, and product managers; champion a scalable design system Lead onboarding, provide documentation, and foster a community around best practices Develop metrics to measure adoption and effectiveness, using insights to improve the system Build and optimize workflows in Figma with plugins, automation, and AI-driven enhancements for design‑to‑engineering handoffs What you’ll need

7+ years in UX/UI or product design roles, including at least 2 years focused on design systems Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including plugins, automation, and AI-driven workflows Experience establishing design token architectures and efficient design‑to‑development workflows Strong visual design and UX judgment with a track record of scalable design solutions Excellent communication skills to advocate for a design system with stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds Experience integrating analytics into design system practices to track adoption and effectiveness Familiarity with emerging design system tooling and best practices Compensation

The salary range for this role is $180,000 – $200,000 USD, with an annual target bonus of 12%. Bonus pay is based on individual performance (50%) and company/team performance (50%). Compensation includes a 401(k) plan with company match up to 3.5%, 18 days of paid time off per year (plus seven paid holidays; some roles may qualify for more). Location & Hybrid

This role is based in Chicago, IL, with potential remote flexibility for exceptional candidates in select states. For Chicago-based employees, the hybrid schedule is in-office Tuesday–Thursday with remote on Mondays and Fridays.
