The Role We are on the lookout for a Senior VMware Systems Administrator to join our team, supporting a significant IT contract for the Department of Defense. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong background in VMware administration, eager to collaborate with fellow system administrators to establish and implement best practices for configuration. The right candidate will be meticulous in addressing customer inquiries and adept at interacting with colleagues to resolve service issues efficiently. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting complex technical challenges, analyzing recurring problems to initiate preventive solutions, and enhancing overall infrastructure performance. Your Key Responsibilities: Oversee the administration of a VMware virtual environment utilizing vSphere across multiple data centers and networks. Install and configure VMware vCenter Server and related management infrastructure. Deploy and manage VMware ESXi hosts. Troubleshoot existing VMware platforms and oversee new deployments. Monitor environmental performance actively and respond to system alerts. Document and update administration practices and guidelines. Configure and troubleshoot VMware virtual and NSX switches. Manage vSAN, iSCSI, and NFS datastores. Provide troubleshooting assistance for various virtual machines and desktops. Mentor junior administrators, sharing your expertise. Support cross-location IT operations within a continuous service model. Develop solutions for complex technical challenges and create documentation for knowledge sharing. Engage with management and clients to address inquiries and service requests. Provide after-hours emergency support as well as plan routine maintenance. Train and provide guidance to IT Operations Center personnel. Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operational continuity. What We Are Looking For: Extensive experience with VMware vCenter, covering versions 6.0 and above. Deep familiarity with ESXi host management and security. Proficient in vSAN implementation, management, and issue resolution. Hands-on experience with NSX network virtualization. Solid understanding of datastore management utilizing iSCSI and NFS. Experience in scheduling and executing automated backups. Skilled in managing and utilizing snapshot policies. Keen interest or experience in Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) such as Dell VXRail. Proficient in performance monitoring and optimization of VMware environments. Capable of troubleshooting VM/VDI issues. Knowledge in creating and debugging automation scripts using PowerShell and PowerCLI. Ability to triage incidents effectively and manage time efficiently. Experience with minimal downtime system patching and upgrades. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. A proven track record of team collaboration and process improvement. Familiarity with IT Service Management tools like Service Now or Remedy. Security Clearance Requirements: Must possess an active TS/SCI with polygraph or TS/SCI and willingness to obtain a polygraph. US citizenship is essential due to government contracting requirements. Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, Master's degree with 6 years, Associate's degree with 10 years, or 12 years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree. Certifications: Must meet DoDM 8140.03 IT System Admin Intermediate certification requirements. Preferred certifications include FITSP-O, GFACT, CASP+, CCNP Security, or CCSP. Preferred Qualifications: VCP certification is highly desirable.
