Assistant Director Environmental Services - Hospital Sign on Bonus eligible Job Summary:
The EVS Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in overseeing the environmental services functions within a healthcare facility. This position ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, infection control, and patient safety are met in all patient care and non-patient care areas. The Assistant Director will support the EVS Director in managing staff, developing departmental policies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Key Responsibilities: Operational Management:
Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Environmental Services (EVS) department, ensuring optimal cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene standards are maintained in all areas of the healthcare facility. Supervise EVS supervisors and frontline staff, providing guidance, training, and performance management. Ensure that all housekeeping tasks are performed efficiently, including cleaning patient rooms, common areas, restrooms, and offices. Coordinate and implement cleaning schedules, including high-touch surface disinfection, floor care, and waste management.
Infection Control & Compliance:
Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and healthcare regulations, including hospital-acquired infection prevention and cleanliness standards. Assist in conducting environmental cleaning audits, inspections, and quality control checks. Work closely with the infection control team to address and resolve potential infection risks related to environmental cleanliness.
Staff Training & Development:
Lead training initiatives for EVS staff, ensuring they are knowledgeable in best practices for cleaning, disinfection, and safety protocols. Provide guidance and support to ensure staff members are properly utilizing cleaning equipment, chemicals, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Foster a positive work environment, encouraging teamwork, continuous learning, and professional development.
Budget & Resource Management:
Assist in the management of the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment. Support inventory management processes, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage of materials. Collaborate with the EVS Director in forecasting departmental needs and implementing cost-saving measures.
Quality Assurance & Reporting:
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cleanliness, efficiency, and infection control. Develop and implement action plans based on audit results, feedback, and patient satisfaction surveys. Prepare and present regular reports on departmental performance, challenges, and improvements to senior management.
Health & Safety:
Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and other health and safety guidelines. Promote a culture of safety, addressing any risks or hazards promptly and effectively. Oversee waste disposal practices, ensuring the proper handling of biohazard and non-hazardous waste.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with other departments, including nursing, maintenance, and administration, to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Participate in facility-wide initiatives and committees to improve patient care, satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications: Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental services or facilities management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role in a healthcare setting. Experience in infection control practices and healthcare regulations is highly preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff. Knowledge of environmental cleaning techniques, infection control protocols, and healthcare standards. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and develop action plans to improve service quality. Proficient in the use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety protocols.
Certifications:
Certification in Environmental Services or Infection Control (e.g., CHESP, HAZWOPER) preferred. OSHA or safety certifications are a plus.
Working Conditions: Full-time position with some flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays as needed. Ability to walk, stand, and lift for extended periods of time. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and other environmental agents, with adherence to safety protocols.
