Blue Nature Alliance and the Pew environment portfolio work together to advance ocean conservation and financing initiatives. The Alliance is a global, multi-institutional partnership with staff across multiple organizations and time zones, including Conservation International, The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Global Environment Facility, Minderoo Foundation, and the Rob Melani Walton Foundation. Position Overview

The principal officer develops and implements a three-year pilot program with the Blue Nature Alliance that seeks to help three countries develop national marine finance strategies in pursuit of 30x30. This role works closely with the Alliance’s Conservation Finance Delivery Team, Country Leads, Conservation Finance Technical Lead, and Outreach and Resource Mobilization Lead. The position reports to the senior director, global conservation initiatives, and provides strategic oversight and coordination of program objectives such as cost models and marine finance plans. It also involves high-level engagements with government agencies, financial institutions, donors, and NGOs, and coordination between core executing partners of the Alliance. Located in Pew’s Washington, DC office, this position participates in Pew’s hybrid work program with core days in the office and flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework “flex weeks” per year. Committed funding is in place through December 2027. Responsibilities

Lead the design and operations of the pilot program over three years, providing strategic direction, coordination, resource management, and supervision. Manage the program budget and oversee grant implementation, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources to achieve donor-approved results. Oversee the work of multiple vendors and contractors supporting in-country efforts. Establish reporting, evaluation, and communication systems; direct the preparation of annual work plans and progress reports. Provide guidance over deliverables such as financial models, financing mechanism analysis, and national marine financing plans; oversee completion of all technical requirements. Communicate with Alliance leadership and serve as the primary Alliance representative on the project; liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Participate as an active member of the Alliance Conservation Finance delivery team and Pew environment portfolio’s conservation finance community of practice. Engage with potential funders, government donors, and financial institutions to mobilize resources and structure deals. Represent Blue Nature Alliance publicly at conferences and in publications and social media. Participate in activities supporting program and Alliance objectives. Foster a work environment that values impact, transparency, diversity, collaboration, and mutual respect. Lead, guide, and mentor network team members, technical experts, contractors, and staff participating in the Alliance conservation finance delivery team. Requirements

Proven leadership including skills in conservation finance, marine conservation, strategic planning, management, supervision, and budgeting. Experience with donor regulations and international project management of similar scope; ability to work in a matrix organization. Ability to collaborate with senior government officials, the private sector, and civil society. Experience implementing projects with rigorous timelines and donor-approved monitoring and evaluation. Strong technical and analytical skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred. Generally ten years of applicable experience, including staff, project, and/or consultant management in multi-sector, international programs. Key Attributes and Preferred Experience

Deep conservation finance background; understanding of cost models, finance mechanisms, and marine conservation. Ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups, including governments; diplomacy and cultural sensitivity. Capacity to operate programs with a high degree of independence. Travel

This position requires frequent international travel. Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without visa sponsorship. Salary Range

$160,100 USD - $178,900 USD The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of annual pay based on Pew’s commitment to equitable and market-competitive compensation. Actual salary offered will consider factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, internal pay equity, and business need. Total Rewards
