Description

Job Overview:

The MRSS Counselor provides timely, structured, community-based in-person interventions and support services for youth and families in need of stabilization. This role addresses emotional symptoms, behaviors, or traumatic circumstances that impair functioning at home, school, or in the community. Services include immediate response, safety planning, skill building, and linkage to long-term supports with the goal of reducing risk and increasing stability. Interventions are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and typically time-limited.

Job Functions

Deliver immediate, in-person intervention and safety planning to stabilize emotional or behavioral crises. Provide home, school, and community-based services focused on de-escalation, skill building, and safety. Offer intensive, time-limited support typically lasting no more than 6 weeks without reauthorization. Facilitate follow-up stabilization and link clients to ongoing care, including wraparound and evidence-based services. Include family and informal supports in assessment, treatment, and transition planning. Conduct screenings and CANS assessments for safety concerns, including suicide risk, trauma, and other clinical indicators. Promote family communication and behavior management through targeted therapeutic interventions. Monitor treatment adherence and coordinate with schools, courts, and children’s services. Encourage compliance with prescribed medication and consult with prescribing providers as needed. Educate families on the nature of the youth’s mental health needs and community resources. Assist with transportation access for appointments and services. Collaborate with other providers and community partners to support the youth and family. Complete required documentation and outcomes tracking within agency standards. Ensure timely collection of demographic, eligibility, and insurance documentation. Maintain CANS certification and required licensure. Participate in team meetings, supervision, and agency trainings. Provide coverage and team support as needed. Meet assigned productivity and billing expectations. Abide by agency policies, professional codes of ethics, and confidentiality standards. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related mental health field, preferred. Bachelor's degree required. Current licensure as LSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC. Knowledge of child development, trauma, and family systems. Familiarity with DSM/ICD diagnostic criteria. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build rapport with youth and families and support them through crisis. Commitment to advocacy, timely documentation, and quality care. Organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently. Basic computer and documentation skills. Valid Ohio driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of insurance.
