Position Title: Application Engineer Department: Engineering Location: San Jose, CA Basic Purpose and Objective The company is seeking a highly motivated Application Engineer to serve as a technical liaison between key customers and internal teams. This role focuses on understanding customer needs, evaluating technical requirements, and supporting product development and application processes. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing projects, mentoring team members, and driving customer satisfaction through technical expertise and effective communication. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Communicate with key customers to document product and project requirements, ensuring clear understanding of their needs. Identify new product applications and collaborate with the company's R&D, manufacturing, sales, and marketing teams to drive innovation. Evaluate customer application requirements to address technical considerations and ensure product compatibility. Coordinate customer analysis requests, preparing, reviewing, and issuing detailed written reports to present findings. Manage documentation and activities for assigned projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion. Provide mentoring through technical reviews and support to other application engineers within the department. Train and develop customers and the company's personnel on the company's products to enhance product knowledge and application success. Assess customer requirements related to requests for quotations, ensuring technical and commercial accuracy. Identify cost reduction opportunities and new design possibilities to enhance product value and efficiency. Collaborate with development engineers to evaluate tested bearings and provide technical insights. Support the supply of customer sample bearing requests to facilitate product evaluation. Report progress on activities such as interchanges, monthly reports, travel, and expenses in a timely and organized manner. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in application engineering, product development, or a customer-facing technical role. Strong technical aptitude with the ability to evaluate mechanical components and systems, preferably bearings or similar products. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers, internal teams, and stakeholders effectively. Proven project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Experience interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and customer requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools; experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) is a plus. Ability to mentor and train others, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment. Willingness to travel as needed to support customer meetings, training, or project requirements. Knowledge of cost analysis, product design optimization, or manufacturing processes is an advantage. Preferred Skills: Familiarity with bearing applications, mechanical power transmission, or related industries. Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
