Overview
Senior Network Engineer role at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. The Information Technology and Services (ITS) team seeks a Senior Network Engineer with a commitment to service excellence to join its Infrastructure team. In this role, you will assist in the design, installation, and support of the University network. The position reports directly to the Enterprise Infrastructure Architect. Responsibilities Assist in the design, installation, and configuration of network equipment, such as routers, switches, wireless controllers/access points, and network access control. Evaluate and implement products and platforms to provide cost-effective solutions that meet architectural and business requirements while ensuring the latest industry capabilities. Maintain and troubleshoot structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and copper cable networks, patch panels, and connectors. Monitor the performance of the University's communication systems, including network traffic, system capacity, and utilization levels. Maintain documentation of the network and communications infrastructure, including diagrams, inventory, and network configurations. Perform routine system administration tasks such as installing system updates, replacing hardware, and monitoring system performance. Diagnose and resolve problems with the organization's network and communications systems, such as network outages, equipment malfunctions, and connectivity issues. Ensure the organization's network and communications systems are secure and comply with security policies and compliance regulations. Participate in disaster recovery planning, exercises, and testing. Generate reports on the performance and status of the organization's systems, including network uptime and system utilization. Assist with projects, including planning, design, and implementation. Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Minimum 5+ years working in network engineering or network architectural roles within the IT industry.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong knowledge of network protocols, standards, and security measures. Hands-on experience with Extreme Networks (or equivalent) router/switch/network access control configurations and troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with Extreme Networks (or equivalent) wireless access points. Strong working knowledge of VOIP communication systems (i.e., Microsoft Teams Telephony). Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair network communication issues in an effective and efficient manner. Knowledge of service management principles (i.e., ITIL) and security frameworks (i.e., NIST). Ability to interpret building schematics and specifications. Professional verbal and written communications. Strong soft skills and ability to communicate openly. Microsoft Visio or equivalent. ServiceNow or equivalent.
