$110,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr About the Simulation Team

The Simulation team builds and maintains the infrastructure that supports large-scale, high-fidelity simulations essential for developing and validating autonomous systems. Working at the crossroads of distributed computing, cloud services, and simulation technology, the team enables workflows used by engineers, researchers, and analysts across the company. Their modular simulation platform supports both system-wide and component-level testing and runs on distributed cloud clustersallowing for expansive testing beyond the limits of real-world driving. Role Overview

A Simulation Backend Engineer is needed to help design, implement, and optimize the backend systems that power distributed simulation workloads. This individual will play a key role in building reliable infrastructure to support large-scale experimentation, focusing on everything from job orchestration and data pipelines to storage systems and cloud-native services. Key Responsibilities Design and build backend services for orchestrating and managing large-scale simulation jobs. Develop scalable data storage and access systems using technologies such as Amazon S3, PostgreSQL, and Redis. Build and maintain Kafka-based messaging systems to support robust, event-driven workflows. Define infrastructure as code using Terraform to automate deployment and scaling within AWS environments. Collaborate closely with simulation engineers, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders to ensure performance, reliability, and seamless integration.

Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience developing backend systems in a production environment. Strong programming skills in at least one language: Python (preferred), Java, or Go. Solid understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native architecture. Experience with tools and platforms such as AWS (especially S3 and EKS), Redis, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Terraform. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
