Overview
Senior Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer/Architect Contract Duration: 6 Months+ Location: Fully Remote (CST Hours) Reason for Opening: Migration from Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Were seeking a senior-level Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) architect to lead a global enterprise transformation from Citrix to AVD, supporting over 1,800 instances. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on delivery, requiring a candidate who can operate as both a technical authority and a consulting thought leader. This is not an administrative position its a high-impact role for someone who can manage complex, enterprise-scale projects end-to-end. Must-Have Experience
AVD expertise: large-scale implementations (1,000+ instances) with global reach and operational efficiency. Azure Stack HCI (Azure Local): deep implementation experience and hybrid cloud integration. Windows 11 Enterprise Delivery: proven at-scale delivery through AVD. Image Management & Automation: skilled in automation for image creation and deployment (Nerdio a plus). End-to-End Delivery: track record of 10+ month enterprise projects (not just short sprints). Nice-to-Have Skills
Nerdio Management Suite experience Citrix migration background Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) Enterprise monitoring with Azure-native tools Disaster recovery planning and enterprise architecture experience Certifications (Highly Valued)
Azure: AZ-140 (most relevant), AZ-305, AZ-104, AZ-801, AZ-303/AZ-304 (legacy) Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate Citrix CCP-V or CCE-V Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Define and execute the global AVD deployment strategy Provide modernization and optimization thought leadership Develop reference architectures and blue/green deployment processes Technical Architecture & Implementation
Lead Citrix-to-AVD migration planning and execution Design and implement image automation workflows Deploy Infrastructure as Code solutions (Terraform, Ansible) Establish enterprise-grade monitoring, alerting, and DR strategies Advanced Support & Optimization
Provide Level 2/3 support for complex performance issues Optimize AVD for scale, efficiency, and global performance Ideal Candidate Profile
Broad experience across multiple client environments and industries Skilled at balancing executive-level strategy with technical execution Comfortable presenting to C-suite and troubleshooting at the engineering level Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills TSG is an equal opportunity employer.
