Overview
The Associate Director of Quality (Aerospace & Defense) will be responsible for providing leadership to the site QA teams that support multiple business units and multiple technologies: ICs, discrete and system/module product lines. The focus will also be on the development of processes, systems and suppliers to expand Microchips product offering and support for the Aerospace and Defense market. This includes coordinating and aligning efforts to implement and integrate aerospace and defense compliant systems and processes into the Microchip ecosystem. In addition, this role will support the site Quality Managers to develop and manage quality systems, customer quality, manufacturing quality, supply chain monitoring process development and quality initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Working across the organization to establishing and structure Quality Management systems and processes to support Aerospace and Defense products and Systems and Module products.
- Customer Quality: Coordinating the reach out to customers to understand their requirements and issues, establish joint improvement initiatives. Collect customer feedback and work with the quality team to implement improvements.
- Agency Management: Support ongoing communications with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
- Supplier Quality: Develop processes and supplier quality support for Aerospace and development requirements. Flow down and auditing to MIL-PRF requirements. Auditing, measuring and monitoring, continual improvement and corrective action support for Aerospace and defense requirements and to supply factory/product knowledge.
- Regulatory compliance: Support/develop processes to ensure compliance of aerospace and development regulatory requirements.
- Development and New Product Development work with teams to address relevant MIL-SPEC and MIL-PRF requirements, including qualification, QML certifications. Understand requirements of RCTA DO-178 and DO-264 to support NPI projects.
- Manage manufacturing process certification to MIL-PRF requirements, implementation of requirements to product mil-spec parts.
- Manage and ensure compliance of the Technical Review board process for mil-prf certified products and locations.
Support Site Quality In The Following
- Site quality systems (QMS) development and continual improvement, working within the site teams to maintain ISO9001, AS9100 certifications and other industry standards.
- Customer Failure Analysis requests, creation of 8D, to determine root cause, implementing corrective/preventive actions for returns and/or complaints.
- Reliability activities during new product introduction, qualification planning, MTBF/FIT calculations.
- Manufacturing by completing in process inspections, MRB fault analysis, root cause, CAPA, awareness training.
- Supply-chain, SCAR process with corrective actions for non-conforming materials, new material/product first article assessments/test plans, review potential new suppliers through surveys and on-site audits.
- Process engineering with development and implementation of new processes, including documentation and personnel training.
- Provide factory awareness training for ESD and FOD programs, as well as provide operator specialist certifications to IPC-610 and J-STD-001 quality requirements.
- Maintain and develop procedures and processes to improve overall product and process quality.
- Supporting NPI activities, creation of Quality Plans, setting Key Characteristics (KC), identify and education team on RISK (FMEA) during NPI process.
- Supervising quality teams comprised of (Quality Managers, Quality Engineers, Quality Technicians and Inspectors), monitoring, and implementing GMP and Key Product/Process Indicators (KPIs).
- Monitoring and evaluating internal production processes, Internal and Process Auditing.
- Engaging with customers and gathering product feedback and implementing control plans to address customer needs.
- Reporting to upper management on quality standard and product issues.
Requirements/Qualifications
- US Person.
- Bachelors degree in technical/engineering field ie. EE/ME.
- 12+ years of quality management experience.
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience: ICs, boards and systems.
- Aerospace and defense manufacturing and/or quality experience. Exposure to MIL-PRF certifications a plus.
- Automotive or Medical manufacturing and/or quality experience a plus.
- Demonstrated skills in employee development and delegation.
- Demonstrated skills in working with business, customers and suppliers on continual improvement.
- Experience with customer audits, visits or improvement initiatives.
- Experience with process development, roadmap development, project management a plus.
- Product qualification to mil standards preferred, automotive or medical experience acceptable.
- Knowledge of ESD, FOD, counterfeit prevention and control processes and training a plus.
- AS9100 certification, quality management development and continual improvement highly desirable.
- Trade compliance and CMMC knowledge and training are a plus.
- Developing and providing quality metrics and initiatives inputs to top management.
- Experience facilitating continual improvement and learning culture across all functional areas through training and communication of quality initiatives.
