Overview Associate Director 4 (HR Title: Career Coach IV) at Southern Methodist University. This on-campus, in-person position serves as a key student portfolio manager and strategic advisor within the SMU Cox Career Management Center.

Manage a portfolio of 120+ MBA students across Two-Year FTMBA, One-Year FTMBA, and MBA Direct programs as the primary career advisor and strategic partner throughout the job search journey and up to six months post-graduation. Provide 1:1 coaching, market research, and tailored career development support. Help students identify career paths, build personal brands, craft resumes and interview narratives, and navigate MBA recruiting activities. Track and document progress, collect updates on employment outcomes, and generate outcome reports. Monitor market dynamics to deliver timely, relevant advice and interventions. Lead Career Programming Management & Execution for initiatives such as Cox Mentorship Academy, Cox Career Alumni Network, Peer Coach program, and additional workshops for FTMBA and MBA Direct students. Design, execute, and continuously improve programming aligned with student readiness and departmental goals. Manage planning from concept to budget, logistics, marketing, stakeholder engagement, execution, and post-event analysis. Develop reports to assess efficacy and impact and provide regular updates to leadership. Oversee Student Worker & Peer Coach teams (approximately 5 students), including onboarding, training, progress monitoring, feedback, and scheduling. May include contractor management. Lead Facilitating activities for MBA courses (audiences up to 150). Plan curriculum, deliver content, assess learning outcomes, and provide feedback. Maintain relevance with employer/alumni networks for current market conditions in MBA recruiting. Engage in Admissions: interview and yield candidates, provide career insights during events, and contribute to marketing materials with career content. External Relations: Build and maintain an alumni and employer network of 200+ members; engage employers at information sessions and career fairs; support other departments with career-related issues and student engagement. May require evenings and occasional weekends to coach MBA students in evening programs and to support events. Education and Experience A Master’s degree is required. An MBA or MS in a business-related field is strongly preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in a business-related or career-coaching function is required, with prior career coaching and/or university recruiting experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to build relationships across the university and with senior-level executives. Excellent written communication and customer-service orientation. Strong problem-solving, organizational, planning, and time-management skills. Robust business acumen with the ability to convey business terminology in writing and coaching conversations. Self-directed, able to prioritize and handle ambiguity. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; web/email productivity. Knowledge of social media tools and experience with ChatGPT prompting is preferred. Physical and Environmental Demands
