Overview We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially savvy Senior Director of Commercial Operations to lead the market-facing strategy and execution for our gas-fired power generation assets. This role will oversee the negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), manage merchant power sales, and drive optimization strategies across the ERCOT and PJM markets. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of commercial power markets, strong experience with gas turbine operations, and the leadership capabilities to build and scale a high-performing commercial team. Responsibilities
Lead commercial activities for gas-fired assets, including structured PPAs, hedging strategies, and merchant sales. Develop and implement short- and long-term market strategies to optimize plant revenue across ERCOT and PJM. Partner with trading, asset management, and finance teams to align commercial strategies with company objectives. PPA & Contract Negotiations: Structure and negotiate PPAs and tolling agreements with utilities, C&I customers, and aggregators. Ensure all contracts reflect operational capabilities, risk profiles, and regulatory requirements. Monitor power market developments, price signals, and capacity markets to inform trading and scheduling strategies. Support compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks including ERCOT, PJM, and FERC standards. Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Development, Legal, Engineering, Operations, and Trading teams to support project delivery and market participation. Translate commercial objectives into operational alignment across business units. Build and lead a high-performance commercial team aligned with future growth in gas-fired generation. Mentor and develop team members and foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture. Qualifications
10+ years of experience in commercial operations, energy trading, or origination in the natural gas or power generation sectors. Strong track record negotiating and closing PPAs, tolling agreements, and merchant sales. In-depth knowledge of gas power plant operations, including gas turbine technologies and dispatch economics. Experience operating in ERCOT and/or PJM markets is strongly preferred. Strategic thinker with the ability to manage complex negotiations and assess long-term value. Understanding of regulatory frameworks and risk management practices in power markets. Proven leadership skills and ability to manage cross-functional teams. Experience working for an Independent Power Producer (IPP), utility, or energy marketer. Background in combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) or peaker plant operations. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, or related field; advanced degree (MBA/MS) is a plus.
