Position : Senior Program Manager — Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) PMO

Reporting to the Associate Director of Program Management, the Senior Program Manager is responsible for ensuring the success of major, multi-faceted and highly complex programs within the Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Medication Delivery Business at BD. The candidate will demonstrate best practices in cross-functional team and external partnership leadership to drive excellence in portfolio management, project tracking, and leadership communication. This Leader will define the portfolio architecture and drive successful project/program execution globally. The Senior Program Manager will effectively develop, organize, and motivate a highly skilled cross-functional team. This is a critical role within the BD MDS PMO and is based in Franklin Lakes, NJ, with direct visibility at the executive leadership level and a major impact on strategically important programs.

Responsibilities

Understand milestone-based program planning (daily standups, risk register management, visual planning) for ongoing projects.

Define project resource needs and negotiate program resourcing plans; work with functional leaders to ensure core team resources are committed and meet performance levels.

Lead product development activity, ensuring a structured design and development process is followed and compliance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements where applicable.

Ensure alignment across product value proposition, program scope, and strategic business objectives; lead program planning to ensure requirements are clear and driven by market needs and customer insights.

Establish governance mechanisms (core team meetings, technical design reviews, commercial excellence, and industrialization reviews) in a timely and effective manner.

Identify and manage project risks and issues with timely mitigation and resolution with impacted partners.

Lead cross-functional teams through problem resolution including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions; challenge the team to rethink assumptions.

Build morale and align the team toward common goals and objectives.

Scope of Responsibility

Oversee portfolio of projects to ensure on-time delivery to commitments.

Drive development and deployment of program management tools and techniques.

Set clear objectives and measurements; facilitate team dynamics.

Engage, influence, and direct all functions and partners involved in new product development.

Exhibit strong influencing skills to achieve goals through others across functions, external partners, geographies, and cultures.

Lead complex projects delivering outcomes balancing time, budget, quality, and market/customer expectations; skilled in integrated and tactical planning, risk management, execution, and communication at all levels.

Make sound business decisions from disparate data points and provide clarity in ambiguity.

Demonstrate time management, self-control, continuous learning, and agility in action.

Requirements

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related engineering field; advanced degree (engineering or MBA) preferred.

At least 12 years of relevant product development and design experience, including 5–8 years in medical devices/products.

Minimum 5–8 years of project management experience.

Experience in medical device industries and FDA or other regulated environments.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; learning agility.

Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to tailor communications by audience.

Track record of developing and commercializing new products.

Preferred Skills

PMP certification or equivalent preferred.

Six-sigma design and development background preferred.

Experience completing design change activities for medical devices.

Experience developing Class II and III medical devices.

Ability to apply analytical, statistical, computational, and empirical methods to understand design and shorten development timelines.

Work Arrangement and Additional Information On-site collaboration is prioritized; most roles require a minimum of four days in-office per week, with location-based flexibility noted in postings. Some roles may involve remote or field-based work arrangements.
