Assigns the classification of accounting transactions; reviews posting documents, totals entries, and maintains accounts; reconciles account balances and determines corrective actions. Receives, receipts and deposits cash collections; maintains records; closes accounts and prepares balance sheets and financial statements. Conducts research into current accounts to develop specified information; develops comparative data and ratios to reflect relationships between accounts, time periods, or operations. Identifies significant changes in account balances and reviews transactions; conducts account examinations and prepares reports with discrepancies and corrective entries. Prepares summaries of activities, budgets or related data; may supervise purchase order processing and invoices; drafts operational guides and materials. Minimum Qualifications General Experience Requirement: At least six months of general work experience demonstrating knowledge of arithmetic and spelling and the ability to follow directions, with the option of substituting high school/GED coursework in English and arithmetic. Specialized Experience Requirement: At least one year of work involving posting to accounting records and systematizing fiscal information (computing, classifying, and recording data). For level III, IV and V, experience must involve reconciling accounts and preparing standard financial statements. Some positions require knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping; selective certification may be requested. Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience as an inventory or stock clerk not involving fiscal record keeping. Substitution of Education for Experience: Various substitutions apply, including completed accounting curricula, degrees, or coursework credited toward the experience requirements. Requirements: Applicants must meet all position requirements as of the application date. Calculation of experience is based on full-time 40-hour weeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated.
