Overview The Business & Finance Director II provides strategic financial leadership and operational oversight in support of the Cancer Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE) at MUSC Health. This position supports a clinical and academic portfolio with Total Operating Revenue exceeding $1.73B. Operating under limited supervision, the Business & Finance Director II is responsible for financial stewardship, long-range planning, and enterprise alignment for cancer services across MUSC Health’s statewide footprint. Reporting directly to the System Administrative Officer of the Cancer ICCE, this role collaborates with the Cancer ICCE Chief, Cancer ICCE leadership, and the Director of Corporate Finance, the Associate Chief Financial Officer, and the financial leadership teams across divisions. The role delivers high-quality, integrated financial services and collaborates in the execution of strategic initiatives, business planning, budgeting, and performance measurement to advance the mission and operational excellence of the Cancer ICCE.

The Director will lead strategic projects, drive performance improvement initiatives, and partner with clinical and administrative leaders across care settings. The Director will directly manage the Oncology ICCE’s budgeting, financial forecasting, and development of business pro formas, ensuring financial strategies align with operational goals. Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis (25%)
Develops and oversees proformas, ROI analyses, business plans, and long-range financial forecasts in collaboration with the Finance Planning Office.
Supports strategic capital requests, service line expansion, and operational investments across cancer services.
Leads financial modeling for new programs, partnerships, and enterprise initiatives within the Cancer ICCE.
Participates in the development of system plans and analyses to support growth and revenue opportunities for Cancer ICCE operations.
Collaborates with ambulatory leaders, analysts, divisional leaders, practice plan leaders, benchmarking sources, and other resources to create operational and project plans that drive growth.
Partners with stakeholders to develop multi-year forecasts of physician recruitment and departures for all Divisions.
Collaborates with system leaders to drive ambulatory efficiencies and optimization.
Operational Financial Management (25%)
Oversees daily, monthly, and annual financial performance for the Cancer ICCE.
Develops and monitors financial KPIs, productivity metrics, and operational benchmarks for inpatient, outpatient, and support services.
Coordinates the annual Cancer ICCE budget development process, ensuring alignment with system goals and funding priorities.
Leads operational and contribution margin reviews with key operational leaders across the health system.
Collaborates with College of Medicine, MUSC Physicians, MCP, MUHA Finance & Accounting, CFOs, and regional leaders to project budgets and adjust for market changes.
Assists ICCE Leadership to initiate corrective action plans for performance variances and opportunities for improvement.
Identifies performance gaps and recommends actionable improvements.
Collaboration & Leadership (15%)
Acts as a strategic financial advisor to the Cancer ICCE Chief and System Administrative Officer.
Serves as liaison between Cancer ICCE leadership and corporate finance, analytics, procurement, and shared services.
Collaborates across the regional network and MUSC Health divisions to align financial strategy, planning, and execution.
Oversees non-supply chain procurement activities with relevant stakeholders.
Performance Measurement & Reporting (15%)
Develops and maintains a Balanced Scorecard to track financial and operational performance.
Works with ICCE leaders to develop projections and performance plans across scorecard domains.
Prepares executive-level presentations and dashboards for senior leadership, summarizing trends, risks, and opportunities.
Ensures integrity, standardization, and compliance in all financial reporting processes.
Project Management & Innovation (20%)
Leads complex, cross-functional projects and initiatives.
Supports innovation in financial operations, reporting systems, and resource allocation.
Drives continuous improvement in business processes to support high-quality, value-based cancer care.
Maintains clear communication with ICCE leadership and MUSC Health stakeholders on project status and outcomes.
Facilitates system-wide collaboration to ensure timely execution of plans and initiatives.
Professional Qualifications
Master’s degree in Health Administration, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a position of significant financial and supervisory responsibility in an academic medical institution is required.
Knowledge of budgeting, operations, labor management, strategic planning, and reporting systems and methodologies is required.
Proven ability to research, gather, and synthesize information to produce concise reports.
Operational fluency in cancer care delivery across ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient settings.
Proficient in spreadsheets with excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of external regulatory requirements and compliance methods preferred.
Experience with contract negotiation, audit, and compliance is desired.
Knowledge of cancer care operations in both academic and community environments.
Familiarity with Epic and enterprise performance dashboards.
Exposure to clinical trial integration or value-based oncology models.
