Shall perform the duties of the Supervisor of Electrical Inspectors in his/her absence. Serves as a point of contact for wire inspectors when complications arise in connections with inspections or complaints. Performs complex inspections of electrical wiring and directs the correction of defective or unlawful work. Issues notices on defective work and makes inspections to determine if ordered corrections have been made. Performs special investigations on complaints received in connection with work done without a proper permit. Examines plans and specifications for electrical work in order to gather evidence to testify in cases of violations of code, laws, and ordinances regulating electrical installations and repairs. Tests the stability of poles and support of overhead wiring. Inspects vaults and manholes for the presence of gas. Investigates fires, accidents, and other conditions believed to have electrical origins. Control, implementation, and oversight of special Annual Maintenance permits. Represents Electrical Inspectors in Court. Perform related work as required. Minimum Entrance Qualifications

Applicants must have at least six (6) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, practical experience in the electrical field as a Massachusetts Licensed Journeyman Electrician. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited college/university may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. An associate’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of staff engaged in inspecting electrical installations and equipment. Must have a thorough knowledge of the provisions of the Massachusetts Electrical Code. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the position. Ability to write or input comprehensive reports of inspections and accidents. CORI check required. Must have and maintain a valid MA driver’s license. Boston Residency Required. Terms: Union/Salary Plan/Grade: EI 19 | Hours per week: 35
