Communicate with incarcerated clients by mail and telephone Visit incarcerated clients in Connecticut prisons as needed Review and organize case file materials from prior counsel Identify and analyze potential legal claims Collaborate with private investigators and expert witnesses Draft petitions for writs of habeas corpus Prepare for habeas corpus trials Serve as lead trial counsel in habeas corpus proceedings Qualifications
Must be admitted to practice law in Connecticut Honest and trustworthy; highly conscientious and organized Strong computer, reading, writing, and verbal communication skills Committed to providing exceptional representation to indigent inmates Committed to becoming and being an exceptional trial attorney About the Work: Habeas Corpus Trial Practice This position provides an opportunity to serve as lead trial counsel for a full caseload of post-conviction cases for indigent inmates. Habeas corpus cases are civil proceedings, but involve criminal law and procedure. The practice offers a foundation for handling any type of litigation with strong trial experience. We provide extensive training and mentorship to help attorneys develop essential litigation skills. Lead Counsel Training and Mentorship Attorneys are trained and mentored by Supervising Attorney Jade Saginor, with support from the firm’s leadership and established trial systems developed over 26+ years. Remote Position This is a fully remote position. The firm has supported remote attorneys for more than seven years; attendance in person at an office is optional and based on need. Location Requirement Applicants must live in or near Connecticut and be available to visit incarcerated clients and appear in Connecticut courts as needed. Compensation Salary range:
$113,000 - $146,900
