Overview Sr. Director Analyst - Energy & Utilities – Operational Technologies. Base pay range: $152,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr. About the role: As a senior Energy and Utilities analyst, a deep knowledge of, and exposure to, the intersection of information technologies (IT) and operational technology (OT) in the context of electric power and natural gas operations is critical. Exposure to IT/OT in the Oil and Gas and/or water sector would be beneficial. In this role, you will provide actionable, objective insight to Energy and utility CIOs, AI Leaders, and Operational Senior Management. You must be familiar with business models and key regulatory frameworks in the global energy provisioning and utility sectors. A deep understanding of operational functions across the energy and utility value chains, related core business processes, and technologies is critical. You will inform energy and water C-Suite professionals on how the combination of IT and OT can be leveraged to transform, modernize, or optimize operations. You should also have a good understanding of the role that OT can play in mitigating current challenges and creating new business opportunities. You will advise the Executive Management of technology solutions and service providers on how to refine their products and services to meet the evolving needs of energy and utility companies and identify new opportunities. You will be responsible for socializing research ideas and producing research publications according to Gartner specifications and quality measures within the Energy & Utilities research team and with other Gartner experts. This advice will be delivered in the form of published research content, in one-to-one client calls, and in a wide range of presentation formats, from remote briefings, up to and including in-person Gartner Events such as Gartner IT Symposium. Collaboration within the Energy & Utilities team and other teams in the Gartner Business and Technology Insights (BTI) division will be key to developing this advice and the associated content. Building and maintaining good relationships with the Gartner research communities, sales, and account teams will also be key to helping grow the Gartner business and retain existing clients.

Analyze business and technology trends across global energy and utility sectors, providing Gartner clients with critical insights to create OT and IT strategies in line with business goals. Produce a range of research publications, including Best Practice Insights, Market Analyses, Trend and Survey Analyses, Forecasts/Predictions, Hype Cycles, and Case Studies/Use Cases related to Energy & Utilities operations. Lead and contribute to Thought Leadership in relation to OT and AI, OT and the Cloud, OT Management and Optimization, and the evolving markets for OT, including SCADA/Historians/IIoT. Provide Gartner clients with insight and guidance on the latest developments across OT and related IT to safely and economically operate, as well as advise on the solutions, market trends, and vendors. Advise Gartner clients on developments in key operational technology markets, including technology trends and markets’ directions, vendor positioning, and products/solutions offerings. Create scenarios and define critical uncertainties that will help clients prepare for disruptions across the energy and water sectors. Advise utility clients globally on the best use of information and operation technology and appropriate architectural patterns to address mission-critical priorities through digitalization and AI. Assess the maturity of innovative OT solutions and advise clients on risks and benefits of adoption. Provide assessment of vertical technology markets, including market directions, solution maturity, and vendors' positioning. Advise end user clients during each phase of technology product and services procurement. Advise technology solution provider clients on market opportunity, product strategy, competitive positioning, and market messaging. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred 12+ years of relevant field or industry experience Postgraduate degree in power engineering, computer science or related field (preferred) Strong organizational skills; ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables Demonstrate excellence in research and writing ability Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions Proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions Strong communicator who can explain complex concepts concisely Subject matter expert comfortable presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements Strong business and financial acumen; knowledge of global energy and utility landscape Ability to work independently and collaborate across teams in a multicultural global team Learning agility; adept in matrixed environments Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies at all levels Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% Experience in senior energy/utility management roles or senior roles in technology product/solution provider sides Experience with global energy and utility operating models and regulatory frameworks Experience in utility operations areas such as power system modeling and digital twin concepts Experience in software architecture patterns related to Energy Utility operations Who we are At Gartner, Inc.
