Job Description Description: The Psychiatry Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive mental health care under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist. This role includes psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and patient education. The PA collaborates with psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including history, mental status examination, and risk assessment. Diagnose psychiatric conditions in accordance with DSM-5 criteria. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans. Prescribe, adjust, and manage psychotropic medications in collaboration with supervising psychiatrist. Provide supportive counseling and psychoeducation to patients and families. Monitor treatment response, side effects, and overall progress. Order and interpret relevant laboratory tests or diagnostic studies. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (therapists, case managers, primary care providers, social workers). Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate case conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities. Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations governing psychiatric care and prescribing. Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NCCPA certification and state licensure as a Physician Assistant. DEA registration with prescribing authority for controlled substances. Prior experience in psychiatry or behavioral health strongly preferred (inpatient, outpatient, or consult-liaison). Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING
CONDITIONS: Medical office and exam room settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to clinic. Frequent contact with variety of people.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting. Requires ability to help transfer patient. Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and tense patients. Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
