The
Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP)
requires a
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT/CLS)
to provide professional laboratory testing services at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Butner. The FCC Butner Medical Referral Laboratory is
accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP)
and provides testing services across multiple institutions in the Mid-Atlantic and South-Central regions. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will function as a
generalist
and perform testing in all major laboratory disciplines. Responsibilities
Perform laboratory testing in
hematology, transfusion services, coagulation, urinalysis, infectious disease, serology, and chemistry Apply advanced knowledge of clinical laboratory sciences to analysis of human blood, tissues, and body fluids Correlate test data with human physiology and interpret results appropriately Maintain and calibrate laboratory
equipment/instrumentation Conduct quality assurance and quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products Participate in
external proficiency testing programs
to maintain laboratory accreditation Process referral specimens (incoming and outgoing) Maintain logs, records, and laboratory request forms in compliance with
CLIA guidelines Provide technical and clerical support to the laboratory Qualifications
Completion of a
clinical laboratory training program Evidence of successful completion of a
clinical laboratory certification exam Evidence of
experience within the past three (3) years in performing clinical laboratory testing on human specimens Ability to work with a diverse inmate population (experience in correctional settings preferred but not required) Current
CPR certification Health & Security Requirements
Initial and annual evidence of CPR certification Initial and annual Flu vaccination Initial and annual TB skin test (If positive, initial, and annual proof of a negative chest x-ray.) Proof of Hepatitis B vaccination Proof OF MMR Work Environment
Work performed in the
FCC Butner Health Services Unit Professional attire required (scrubs; disposable lab coat provided by the Laboratory) Must follow all institutional rules and BOP security procedures #IND
