The Chief Inspector (CI) is a critical leadership role within L2 Aviation’s FAA Part 145 Repair Station, dedicated to avionics modifications and repairs utilizing both in-house and remote teams. This is a working position, meaning the CI will actively perform avionics modification and repair activities alongside the team when not engaged in inspection or regulatory responsibilities. The CI is responsible for oversight of inspection activities, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and coordination with remote field teams to ensure airworthiness, quality, and safety standards are consistently achieved.

Primary Responsibilities: Performs Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all inspection and maintenance activities comply with FAA Part 145, Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), customer, and manufacturer requirements. Maintain current knowledge of applicable FAA regulations, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and Service Bulletins (SBs).

Inspection Oversight

Develop and implement inspection procedures for incoming, in-process, and final work.

Perform inspections of avionics components, aircraft systems, and maintenance activities to verify compliance. Monitor calibration of tools, test equipment, and ensure traceability.

Quality Assurance Program

Manage the Repair Station’s quality assurance program including audits, non-conformance investigations, and corrective actions. Review and approve documentation such as logbook entries, work orders, and maintenance releases. Ensure adherence to record retention requirements defined in RSM/QCM.

Leadership & Training

Lead and mentor inspectors and avionics technicians, reinforcing safety and quality culture. Provide training on inspection techniques, regulatory changes, and quality assurance practices. Actively perform avionics modification and repair activities when not engaged in inspection duties.

Recordkeeping & Documentation

Maintain accurate and complete records of inspections, audits, and maintenance activities. Oversee traceability of aircraft parts and ensure compliance with FAA documentation standards.

Collaboration & Communication

Coordinate with the Accountable Manager, RAMS Manager, Project Managers, and remote teams to resolve inspection or quality concerns. Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams regarding inspection findings and compliance requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

Ensure proactive reporting of irregularities, incidents, or quality concerns to management. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Required: Strong knowledge of FAA Part 145 regulations, RSM, and QCM requirements. Proficiency in inspection techniques, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation. Ability to read and interpret avionics manuals, schematics, and technical data. Familiarity with maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to travel 40% or more in support of remote avionics modification and repair activities. Must be able to travel on short notice to support projects. Team player with the ability to motivate and support technicians in the field. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Must pass 10-year background verification, pre-employment drug testing, and submit to company's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate/Bachelor’s in Aviation Maintenance preferred. Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License required; Inspection Authorization (IA) preferred. Minimum 5 years aviation maintenance and inspection experience, with avionics modifications strongly preferred. Previous supervisory or management experience in a Part 145 Repair Station environment. Must pass FAA/DOT drug screening and 10-year background check.
