Network Specialist
Location: Springfield VA (15%-50%, depending on world events)
Clearance Required : Active Top Secret Clearance (Required)
Position Description : This is a Network Specialist position assigned to the IRM/FO/ITI/LWS/DSB REACH Program – the U.S. Department of State’s (DoS) crisis response communications office.
Description of Duties :
Designs, builds, and implements network systems
Provides technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems operations
Compiles records and reports concerning network operations and maintenance. Troubleshoots network performance issues. Analyzes network traffic and provides capacity planning solutions.
Manages the testing, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/MAN/WAN systems
Strong knowledge of virtualized server environments (VMware ESXi, vSphere, etc)
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server 2012/2016 system administration
Current SAN/NAS experience
Experience in scripting in Powershell and/or PowerCLI
Performs system-level design and configuration of products including determination of hardware, OS, and other platform specifications
Plans large-scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies
Experience with COMSEC inline network encryptors (e.g. KG-175 family)
Strong knowledge pertaining to Network Administration – Ethernet switching, TCP/IP subnetting & routing (static & dynamic), DHCP, DNS, Cisco network equipment
Performs a variety of systems engineering tasks and activities that are broad in nature and are concerned with major systems design integration and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budgetary, and support facilities and/or equipment
Provides quality assurance review and the evaluation of new and existing software products
Provides assistance and oversight for all information systems operations activities, including computer and telecommunications/communications operations, data entry, data control, LAN/MAN/WAN administration and operations support, operating systems programming, system security policy procedures, and/or web strategy and operations
Participate in design reviews, program reviews and technical interchange meetings
Provides input to policy level discussions regarding standards and technical viability of intended systems requirements
Provides the routine testing and analysis of all elements of the network facilities systems
Utilizes software and hardware tools and identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance
Troubleshoots network systems when necessary and makes improvements to the network
Provides support in various endeavors sponsored by the LAN-WAN Services Division in support of the Department of the State IRM technical mission. Those duties may include inventory control, excess of obsolete and excess equipment, cleaning, office duties, etc. The duties will be determined by the Maintenance Supervisor, and coordinated through Vanguard channels
Requires worldwide availability and periodic overseas travel in support of installations
Job will require heavy lifting at times
Administrative tasks as assigned

Required Education/Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or 3 years’ experience in Information Systems and Technology Management
3+ years experiencing providing technical installation support in a government and/or large commercial environment
Formal industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and/or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP – various)
Required Experience/Skills/Attributes :
Excellent communications skills (oral and written) and well versed with Microsoft Office software
Candidate will work closely with company, contractor personnel, and Government personnel to conduct operational activities and must work well in a team environment
Technically capable, fast learner, quality minded, adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work independent of supervision
