About the Position

The anticipated salary range for hire is $46,134.40 - $56,492.80 annually. Public Works Worker I and II are part of a career series for Public Works Worker I (Trainee), II, III and Public Works Leadworker. Classes in this series perform a wide variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled work in all phases of maintenance, repair and construction of roads, flood control, and other County public works facilities; and do other related work as required. Distinguishing Characteristics

Public Works Worker I:

Under close supervision, performs a wide variety of work in all areas of public works; becomes skilled in the driving and operation of light trucks and other motorized equipment; acquires skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools. Public Works Worker II:

Under supervision, performs a wide variety of unskilled to skilled work in all areas of public works as a first level journeyworker, including the driving and operation of light trucks, skiploaders, mowers, rollers, sweepers, small tractors and attachments, paint stripers and tree-crew equipment; may operate heavy equipment in apprenticeship or as required on a temporary basis.

Pension Benefit and Employee Contribution Rates: The County's pension is a defined benefit plan that provides a guaranteed monthly pension payment for life based on your time in service, wages, and other factors. The County is the primary contributor to the pension fund, but the health of the pension fund also depends on mandatory employee contributions. Employees are required to pay a percentage of their base pay towards the pension fund, ranging from 5% to 19%. This amount is deducted from your paycheck pre-tax every pay period.
