Description
Performs a variety of technical library support functions on behalf of the Longview Public Library; provides customer service to library patrons; instructs patrons in the use of library equipment and databases; participates in maintaining assigned collection materials; coordinates and delivers library programming; and performs other related duties as assigned. Examples of Duties
Assists in delivering high quality library programs and/or services to the community. Provides customer service to patrons in person and via telephone and internet. Responds to various types of reference inquiries and/or requests for assistance. Assists patrons in performing research and locating library materials. Provides homework assistance to students as required. Receives and processes interlibrary loan requests. Collects and receipts library fees/fines; sells/recharges print and copy cards; receives monies for Friends of the Library book sales; balances and maintains cash register. Inputs, updates, and maintains patron account information in the Library's computer system. Participates in cleaning and maintaining library facilities and equipment; empties book drops; performs opening and closing duties; delivers closing announcements. Instructs individuals in the use of library computers, equipment, databases, and software. Participates in maintaining assigned collection materials; prepares materials for shelving; performs shelf reading. Provides circulation training to other library personnel as assigned. Plans, coordinates, and delivers library programming; assists with special activities and events. Performs other related duties as assigned or required. Minimum Requirements
Associate's Degree in Library Science or related field, and one year library support experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Physical Demands/Work Environment
Work is performed in a public library environment. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Must be able to push/pull library carts and lift/carry library materials. All full-time employees receive: 15 vacation days 11 paid holidays 15 sick days Retirement Plan (Texas Municipal Retirement System) with a two to one match Paid Health/Dental/Life Insurance Cafeteria Plan Emergency Leave Longevity Pay Free employee health clinic Tuition reimbursement
