Description

Performs difficult and technical work in outreach and mobile library services, as well as program development and promotion, and support duties for the Pasquotank County Library. This position is responsible for the daily coordination, oversight, and management of the mobile library and outreach services. Work involves program development and scheduling under the supervision of the Branch Manager, relationship development and management with external organizations, agencies, and the general public. Employees in this classification create, support, develop, plan, and market outreach programs and promotional events, and establish relationships with county and community partners. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director and Branch Manager, and is reviewed through observation and public feedback for quality and effectiveness in fulfillment of library objectives as outlined by the Library Director. Example of Duties Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks Schedules, plans, organizes, and leads a robust schedule of outreach programs and events for the library, and then shares this information with the library staff, and the public. Participates in community events, which may occur outside library hours (e.g. evenings and/or weekends). Prepares materials for outreach events, such as calendars, brochures, and flyers, and then shares this information with the library social media coordinator, circulation staff, and the public. Establishes goals in accordance with library policy and based on community need. Maintains awareness of current library trends and developments. Evaluates outreach programs to identify successes as well as areas of improvement. Compiles and maintains statistical data for library programs and outreach initiatives for monthly and annual reports. Submits quarterly requests for outreach supplies. Creates and maintains partnerships with individuals, county departments, and community-based organizations to facilitate outreach programs and initiatives. Communicates effectively with target groups. Demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and the ability to work with coworkers in a pleasant manner. Cooperation and coordination with the Branch Manager, Youth Services Library Assistant, and Community Engagement Coordinator is expected. Represents the library in a professional manner through outreach efforts and at community events. Engages in collection development with the goal of ensuring patrons have access to supporting materials. Learns and understands procedures in all library departments to enhance patron service. Identifies and pursues opportunities for continuous improvements to library services. In absence of the Library Director and Branch Manager, may be called upon to interpret and apply library policies. Functions in a strong leadership role by clearly demonstrating library values and serving as a role model for others. Holds a valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina to operate, drive, and safely utilize large motor vehicles including a transit van style Mobile Library. Additional Job Duties

Performs related job duties as required. Typical Qualifications Desirable Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree preferred with two or more years of library experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of library policies and procedures; service standards; safety procedures and core library resources, equipment and devices including social media. Knowledge of and/or interest in popular materials, programming and services. Thorough knowledge of public library systems, principles, methods and policies, and programs and materials available. General knowledge of computer technologies to explain and use library tools and resources. Ability to engage with community partners, customers and staff. Ability to be flexible and willing to work in a dynamic, busy, and continuously changing environment. Ability to communicate and interact effectively, patiently and courteously, both verbally and in writing with patrons and staff. Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with a diverse community of customers and library staff. Ability to work with minimal supervision, establish and maintain priorities, meet deadlines, exercise initiative and make independent decisions. Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of policies, procedures, and professional best practices in order to assess situations, identify problems, find and implement logical solutions. Ability and willingness to learn new technology and equipment, apply information to job duties and train others on use. Ability to think analytically and develop new or revised procedures and workflow. Ability to maintain accurate files, collect data and create routine reports.
