Job Title: MAINT - Sewing Machine Mechanic EEO Classification: Craft Workers

Department: Maintenance FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Production Manager

Position Summary: The Sewing Machine Mechanic is responsible for the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of sewing machines. This role ensures optimal machine performance through preventive maintenance and technical support, contributing to efficient production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on sewing machines.

Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, timing, adjustments, and troubleshooting diagnostics.

Assemble, disassemble, and refurbish sewing machines as required.

Design and fabricate folders, hemmers, custom parts, and other sewing machine attachments and spare parts.

Maintain inventory and order tools, parts, and supplies as needed to ensure workflow continuity.

Provide training to sewing machine operators on threading, bobbin replacement, tension adjustment, and basic preventive care, as requested by leadership, Supervision, or Management.

Ensure all work complies with company standards and procedures.

Monitor and manage related operational expenses through cost-effective practices within the assigned budget.

Collaborate with the Technical Production Supervisor to create and maintain the production floor layout.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Prior experience in commercial sewing machine maintenance preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Proficient with hand tools and mechanical equipment

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing instructions

Able to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and instruction manuals written in English.

Physical Requirements

Manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary for machine maintenance

Visual acuity for identifying and inspecting machine components and performing repairs

Ability to lift and carry materials up to 75 pounds

Legible handwriting for completing maintenance logs and documentation

Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift for extended periods
