Overview
The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is an independent state residential school serving the 54 easternmost counties that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students, kindergarten through 12th grade, following a typical school calendar. The ENCSD offers students an academic setting with standards-based instruction, low classroom ratios, career and vocational skills development, current technology, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. A boarding program is available for enrolled students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being. The major purpose of this position is to provide data management and high-level clerical/administrative support services to the School Principal/K-12 Academic Department. Responsibilities Managing student data in NCSIS, including enrollments, withdrawals, student/teacher/room schedules, transcripts, test scores, immunizations and demographics. Monitoring the entry of attendance and grades by teachers into NCSIS. Monitoring student absences for correct excused/unexcused coding, prepares student absence lists and daily absence bulletin. Employing the NCSIS program to generate reports to satisfy the requirements of ENCSD, school administrators, local and state government, law enforcement and health agencies, as well as the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Processes entries and withdrawal from the school. Enrolls new students throughout the year in NCSIS. Entering basic student and demographic information and keeps the records current. Processes arriving students cumulative records. Preparing cumulative records for departing students. Withdraws departing student from Infinite Campus (formerly PowerSchool). Maintaining files of arriving/departing students cumulative records. Copying and sending cumulative records for withdrawing students and maintains a log of students who entered and departed the school throughout the year. Collecting data for and printing marking period report cards and requests cumulative records for new students. Providing full clerical support for the K-12 Academic Department.
Qualifications and Requirements
Considerable knowledge of computers, networking, and/or office practices. Considerable knowledge of office procedures. Considerable knowledge of word processing skills, spreadsheet and/or database creation and maintenance.
Preference
Management will give preference to applicants with NCSIS experience and/or experience working in an Executive Assistant, Administrative or Data Management role in a school. Preferred but not required
The ability to communicate using American Sign Language is helpful; if not proficient, the selected candidate will be required to attend American Sign Language classes, free of charge, during work time on the campus of ENCSD. Note: Some postings permit qualification by an equivalent combination of education and experience. See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for details. Bachelors degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associates degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or High school diploma or GED and four years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
