The Controls Engineer/Programmer is mainly responsible for programming automatic climate control systems utilizing the latest technology from Tridium Niagara, Honeywell Controls, Johnson Controls, Trane, Siemens, Distech and Carrier Controls. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Project Engineering:Design building automation system architecture, including control panel layouts and network diagrams.Develop sequences of operation, control logic, and point lists based on project specifications.Select and specify BAS components such as controllers, sensors, actuators, and network devices.Programming & Commissioning:Program BAS controllers (DDC)Develop and modify control sequences for HVAC, lighting, and energy management.Perform functional testing and point-to-point verification of control systems.Troubleshoot and resolve programming, communication, and hardware issues.Technical Support & Documentation:Work closely with technicians, project managers, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.Provide technical support to field technicians during installation and commissioning.Compliance & Safety:Follow OSHA and company safety protocols when working on job sites.Expert System Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair the most complex and advanced HVAC systems with minimal support.Engineering Knowledge: Deep understanding of HVAC system design, theory, experience with HVAC systems, including AHUs, VAVs, chillers, and boilers.System Integration: Integrate BAS with third-party systems using BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other protocols.Energy Management and Optimization: Experience in energy management, including energy audits and implementation of energy-saving strategies.Advanced Refrigerant Systems: Expert-level knowledge in refrigeration cycle troubleshooting, system retrofits, and advanced refrigerant management.Team Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor senior technicians, guide the technical team, and lead complex projects.Client and Stakeholder Relations: Manage high-level client relationships, including presenting and recommending solutions to organizations.Project Management: Oversee large projects, ensuring the successful design, installation, commissioning, and operation of complex BAS systems.Required Education/Experience: At least 5 years of experience with BAS controls platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, or DistechAt least 3 years of experience in developing, building, testing, and commissioning complete building controls systems including the graphical interface, from the ground upWorking knowledge of the installation, operation, and repair of commercial HVAC and control equipmentWorking knowledge of electrical circuits and systemsHigh school diploma or GEDTridium Niagara 4 CertificationPreferred Experience:Distech Gfx certifiedHoneywell Ciper CertifiedReflow CertifiedCompetencies: •Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Visio, Excel, and Word. •Attention to detail and ability to work independently. •Organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. Work Environment This job operates in both an office and a field environment. Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
