Field Service Technician

The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire protection systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and suppression systems. This role ensures that all fire safety equipment complies with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. The technician works both independently and as part of a team to complete service calls, troubleshoot system issues, and provide customer support. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities: Install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems. Perform routine maintenance and functionality tests on all fire protection systems to ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes (e.g., OSHA). Identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions and provide accurate solutions in a timely manner. Document all inspections, maintenance, and repair work, including deficiency reports and service records. Coordinate with the office to schedule inspections, provide updates, and explain findings. Maintain proper inventory of parts, tools, and equipment for each job. Respond to emergency service calls and provide on-site corrective action when needed. Ensure all work complies with company policies, safety protocols, and applicable regulations. Stay updated on industry standards, new technology, and product updates through training and certifications. Collaborate with other technicians, electricians, and contractors as needed on large-scale installations or retrofits. Essential Skills: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Experience in low-voltage electronic installation, including bending pipe. Proficiency in fire alarm systems programming and troubleshooting. Knowledge of electrical, schematic, service, and blueprint interpretation. Experience with hand tools and electronics related to fire protection systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications: Fire Technician certification. Commitment to ongoing professional development and training. Work Environment: Work is done 100% onsite at customer locations, with technicians working both independently and as part of a team to complete service calls. The technician will travel in their own vehicle to customer sites and to the office to retrieve equipment and materials for each job. The primary work area is throughout New Jersey, although most work occurs in the Tri-State area. The candidate will be eligible for tolls, gas, and all work-related expenses for work out of the state of New Jersey. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pinebrook, New Jersey. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.00/hr.
