Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently the employee will work alone and occasionally will work irregular or extended hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area. Role and Responsibilities Report to head custodian who is responsible for the direction of cleaning services in the facility Clean and sanitize the restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean waste baskets and trash containers; refill restroom dispensaries. Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events etc. Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, and vacuum and shampoo carpets. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools including but not limited to buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuum, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture etc . Wash walls and equipment. Use ladders when required for work assignments. Lock and unlock assigned buildings, secure buildings when facilities are not in use, check for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights. Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies and use as directed. Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Attend emergencies when necessary. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. Assist with inventory control and security. Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment. Keep the custodial closet clean and maintained. Support and enforce all policies such as MIOSHA, etc. Support and enforce all policies established by the Director of Operations. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations. Shall give direction to custodian staff on the afternoon shift in implementing approved sanitation standards. Shall coordinate and expedite directions issued by the Day Custodian Coordinates with the Director of Operations, guidelines for determination of repairs by in-school staff or outside agency Shall have knowledge of and able to perform minor repairs Shall be required to cover day position when necessary Shall be required to cover for snow removal, grass-cutting, and salting sidewalks and driveways as needed. Shall be moved from building to building and/or any shift with 24 hour notice as needed. The above duties are general in nature and are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Preferred Skills

The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (such as a tool box). Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and air compressors. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
