Overview
Instructional Designer 1 (AU Online) at Augusta University. The role guides and supports the development of online programs and courses through direct consultation with individual faculty and faculty groups regarding online course design, delivery, and quality assurance. The designer will work across programs and disciplines and collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts, and cross-departmental stakeholders in the conceptualization, design, development, and on-time delivery of high-quality online courses and learning experiences. This position works within AU Online and collaborates with IT, faculty, staff, and administrators to design, develop, and deliver online courses and programs that integrate teaching methods, technology tools, and assessments to enhance student learning and meet instructional quality and student experience standards. Responsibilities
Develop instructional materials: Collaborate with colleagues and faculty on learning design best practice for effective online learning. Help faculty take advantage of campus technologies; assist with the development of media materials to be incorporated into online courses; assist faculty in using media, software and educational technologies to enhance instruction. In some cases, the instructional designer will build and oversee project management to support program design and development. Create high-quality and valid assessment plans and artifacts to assess evidence of learning for both formative and summative performances to maximize learner understanding and retention of content. Source/create dynamic content to keep learners engaged and ensure courses are current. Review and update existing instructor-led and online content and curate the most relevant content for inclusion in courses. Work closely within teams to create guides, PowerPoint presentations, online resources, websites, and handouts for all training delivery channels. Make informed recommendations on changes to learning experiences using performance data and instructor/student feedback as required. Quality Assurance
Support quality assurance processes for online courses: apply rubrics to evaluate the quality of course design and teaching practice; consult with instructors regarding accessibility of electronic materials, copyright, and compliance with pertinent regulations, policies, and accreditation standards. Faculty Professional Development, Training, and Consultations
Support the development of faculty training aimed at assisting faculty in developing engaging and interactive online programs and courses. Consult with faculty as they incorporate software and educational technology into the development of learning experiences; coordinate projects for online programs to ensure high-quality faculty experience with the online design and development process. Ongoing Professional Growth
Update and improve one's own knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to the instructional design process, faculty development, new models of instruction, emerging technologies, and related fields. Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field from an accredited college/university. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of related experience working with a learning management system such as Daylight/D2L. Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience in instructional design, educational technology or a related field. Several years of experience as a team member. Experience designing asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, flipped, and face-to-face instruction. Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education. Experience implementing a variety of rubrics and standards for quality assurance purposes. Demonstrated success working with faculty members or other instructional staff to improve teaching and learning. Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities for faculty members. Experience with learning analytics. Presentation and/or publication in peer-reviewed contexts. Video production management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
Effective use of a variety of educational technology tools (e.g., Desire2Learn, Echo360, MS Teams, Adobe Creative Suite). Competency in web-related technologies including HTML. Skills:
Use active listening skills; communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written form; effective communication with all groups of faculty, staff, and others; solicit, accept, and provide constructive feedback; a strong commitment to academics and the community at large. Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality; apply an appropriate instructional design process to a given instructional project or problem; apply quality rubrics to improve course design and online teaching; maintain effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external clients; guide faculty in creative and effective use of campus technologies; assist faculty members with the development of multimedia materials and manage recording technologies and studios; learn and support new emerging technologies used in the delivery of online and blended courses; work independently or in a team setting; function in a distributed collaborative work environment; manage multiple projects and meet departmental objectives and deadlines; acquire new knowledge and skills as needed to create effective solutions to novel problems; develop innovative and engaging instructional strategies and materials. Shift, Salary, and Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours may be required). Pay Band: B10 Salary: Minimum $52,500 annually. Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint).
