Storage Engineer
FirstHealth of the Carolinas is a nationally recognized health care system located in central North Carolina. The Storage Engineer provides open systems and mainframe enterprise storage and backup support functions to optimize system performance and availability. Position will be responsible for the design, installation, configuration, management, provisioning, and troubleshooting of the storage environment consisting of various solutions and vendors. Storage environment includes NetApp, HDS, Brocade and Cisco fabric switches. This position interacts directly with various Systems Engineers, Virtual Desktop Engineers, and Data Integration Engineers Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: Creates, removes, and expands file systems and volumes. Provides SAN switch director monitoring, configuration, and support. Works with senior peers to develop management procedures for the storage and server environments Creates and maintains documentation Completes backup and recovery, data migration, storage allocation, connectivity, and storage reporting Assists in the evaluation, design, and implementation of future enterprise storage hardware and software Responsible for various Microsoft Windows Servers Performs testing in preparation of storage related hardware or software upgrades Manage physical and logical storage volumes Perform file system management Install and maintenance monitoring tools necessary to keep storage environment working at peak performance Understand performance metrics, monitor system performance, and troubleshoot issues Engage in capacity planning exercises to ensure adequate system resources Collaborate with all technical teams to ensure environments have adequate storage Write and maintain scripts to improve system management tasks Participate in change control process for all planned applications and technical activities related to storage Maintain and test processes related to business continuity Follow vendor best practices for Storage hardware and software configuration Qualifications
Education and Formal Training: Two-year degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other healthcare information technology related fields required or equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or other healthcare technology related field preferred. Work Experience: Minimum 4 years' experience in information technology with expertise as a Storage Administrator or Engineer using iSCSI and Fiber Channel storage systems. NetApp experience a plus. Working knowledge of storage area network protocols is preferred. Brocade Fiber Channel or Cisco MDS series switch experience a plus. Microsoft Windows Server Operating System experience is preferred. Certification: SNIA Certified Storage Engineer (SCSE) or NetApp Certified Data Management Administrator (NCDA) certification(s) are preferred. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert are preferred.
