Overview

RayzeBio, a Bristol Myers Squibb company, is seeking a highly independent and hands-on Director, Applied Generative AI to lead the company's adoption and implementation of next-generation artificial intelligence capabilities. This role requires a self-starter who thrives with minimal oversight, proactively identifies priorities, and drives the strategy and execution for AI initiatives that deliver rapid, measurable impact. The Director, Applied Generative AI will serve as the primary leader for RayzeBio's AI efforts, managing suppliers and engaging with stakeholders across RayzeBio and BMS, and collaborating closely with RayzeBio Digital, IT and analytics staff as well as BMS BI&T. This role emphasizes hands-on technical depth and influence over people management. You will be expected to build and nurture internal and external relationships, orchestrate collaboration across multiple functional and supplier teams, and ensure appropriate alignment with BMS's broader enterprise strategy. This is a highly influential position, where success depends on the ability to engage, persuade, and align cross-functional stakeholders and external partners—even without direct authority. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to independently drive transformative technology projects from concept to adoption in a dynamic, matrixed environment. Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and technical leadership for the identification, development, and deployment of AI, LLM, and agentic automation solutions across RayzeBio, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and enterprise initiatives as well as harmony with BMS enterprise platforms and governance (e.g., model/platform reuse, safety & privacy reviews, data access controls, usage/cost monitoring). Operate with a high degree of independence and accountability—setting priorities, making critical decisions, and delivering outcomes with minimal supervision. Lead cross-functional coordination by collaborating with all teams at RayzeBio, as well as with stakeholders at BMS (primarily BI&T), to identify high-value opportunities and deliver scalable solutions. Build, maintain, and expand strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders—including enterprise partners and supplier/vendor teams—to facilitate open collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technology alignment. Guide and, as needed, oversee external suppliers (data engineers, solution developers, consultants), providing clear direction and technical guidance to secure high-quality, on-time project delivery. Drive the adoption and enablement of BMS-approved AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot) across RayzeBio, serving as the primary advocate and trusted advisor on best practices, compliance, and value realization. Develop and deliver onboarding, training, and enablement content, supporting technical and non-technical users in leveraging generative AI tools safely and effectively, and fostering an AI-first mindset organization-wide with measurable adoption goals (e.g., enablement OKRs, usage and completion metrics). Ensure that all AI and analytics initiatives are synergistic with existing BMS enterprise programs, proactively avoiding duplication of effort and elevating RayzeBio's contributions by documenting reuse patterns and de-duplication across teams. Act as a key influencer and change agent within RayzeBio, communicating the vision, strategy, and value of AI solutions to diverse audiences. Continuously monitor emerging AI technologies and best practices, recommending new approaches to drive continuous improvement and proposing a pragmatic roadmap for scaling the AI function. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of progressive experience delivering advanced AI/ML solutions, including hands-on development, solution deployment, and cross-functional project leadership. Demonstrable experience leading enterprise adoption and integration of generative AI or large-scale automation tools—preferably in life sciences, biotech, or healthcare. Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace), plus experience with LLM/agentic AI solutions (prompt engineering, RAG, LangChain) and GenAI/MLOps tooling (AWS or GCP, MLflow, feature stores, vector databases, model evaluation/monitoring). Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and influencing across levels in a matrixed organization. Proven track record of successful supplier/vendor management for technical projects. Experience designing and delivering technical training and change management for end users (including role-based enablement for technical and non-technical audiences). Exceptional interpersonal communication and collaboration skills. Ability to operate autonomously, prioritize initiatives, and lead through ambiguity in a fast-paced biotech environment. Preferred Experience

Direct experience building and scaling AI functions, working with enterprise service groups (e.g., BMS BI&T). Experience with cloud computing, data engineering, and MLOps best practices (AWS or GCP preferred). Familiarity with GxP, data privacy, and security standards relevant to biotechnology and healthcare. Pharmaceutical experience, especially on the CMC, early development, and clinical areas.
