Overview
Role :: Senior UI/UX Designer (15+ years Exp Must) Location : Austin Texas (Hybrid)-LOCALS ONLY Duration :: Contract Understands business objectives and problems, identifies alternative solutions, performs studies and cost/benefit analysis of alternatives. Analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer system. Writes detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs. Reviews computer system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within the existing system.
Key Responsibilities
Lead user research initiatives and journey mapping to gain deep insights into user interactions and identify opportunities for optimization.
Proven UX Design Experience: extensive portfolio demonstrating expertise in user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping (low and high-fidelity), and usability testing.
Develop wireframes, prototypes, and visual hierarchies in accordance with accessibility guidelines and branding standards.
Collaborate with Code for America and cross-functional teams to apply industry best practices in UI/UX design.
Engage in discovery workshops, feedback sessions, and sprint planning to ensure design decisions align with business objectives.
Utilize tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, and Hotjar; implement usability testing, responsive design, and SEO optimization strategies.
Experience with AI/ML Interfaces: designing UIs for systems with AI/ML, focusing on explainable AI (XAI) and human-AI interaction.
Complex System Design: understand and design for complex business logic and regulatory requirements (government services, healthcare, finance).
Data Visualization: present complex data and AI insights clearly and concisely.
Empathy and User Advocacy: advocate for user-centered design principles.
Collaboration & Communication: effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design solutions to stakeholders.
Understanding of Accessibility Standards: knowledge of WCAG and other accessibility guidelines.
Bonus: experience with eligibility determination systems or similar rule-based, data-intensive applications.
Minimum Requirements
Hands-on experience designing UIs/UX for enterprise systems using tools like Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch.
Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into intuitive design solutions that align with accessibility and branding standards.
Experience applying UX design principles to create responsive and accessible web and mobile interfaces.
Experience creating wireframes and prototypes that support agile development cycles (sketch-to-visual fidelity).
Experience designing diagrams and visual narratives to communicate timelines, workflows, and system architecture.
Ability to facilitate design workshops and feedback sessions with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort.
