Basso, located beneath The Cheshire, is a lively Italian-inspired gastropub known for its wood-fired pizzas, seasonal small plates, and 32 beers on tap. With an intimate underground setting and a vibrant, high-volume energy, Basso is where St. Louis locals and visitors gather for a one-of-a-kind dining and drinking experience.
Your Role
As Shift Manager, you’ll be the
Manager on Duty
when the General Manager is not present. You’ll oversee daily operations, lead the team, and ensure every guest leaves with a memorable experience. This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership Manage shift operations for a high-volume bar and restaurant.
Ensure smooth FOH/BOH coordination and exceptional service execution.
Team Supervision & Development Lead, coach, and support staff to deliver great hospitality.
Train new hires on procedures, safety, and legal alcohol service.
Guest Experience Deliver and model superior guest service.
Handle guest concerns quickly and professionally.
Financial Oversight Balance daily finances, handle deposits, and reconcile cash/credit.
Monitor labor costs and employee hours.
Inventory & Compliance Manage extensive beer, wine, and liquor inventory.
Enforce safety, cleanliness, and food quality standards.
Leadership Presence Lead by example on the floor, keeping energy high and staff motivated.
Step in during peak rushes to support the team and keep service flowing.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Previous supervisory or management experience in restaurants/bars required.
Strong background in high-volume operations (gastropub or similar preferred).
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Knowledge of alcohol service laws and best practices.
Availability for night and weekend shifts.
