Job Description
The Occupational Health nurse works to prevent, investigate, and treat workplace-related illnesses and injuries. The nurse also educates the employer and employees on how to prevent accidents and injuries. They may suggest changes in procedures or develop other ways to make the workplace safe.
Non-Work-Related Illness and Injury Care (triage and first aid)
Work-Related Illness and Injury Care (triage and first aid)
Over-the-Counter Medication Administration
Immunization Administration
Simple Medical Procedures (eye/ear flush, suture removal, etc.)
Perform CLIA Waived Labs (urine dip, rapid strep, etc.)
Health Screens (blood pressure, vision, finger stick labs, etc.)
Pre-Employment Screens and Ergonomic Evaluations
Primary Care Referrals
Drug and Alcohol Testing Program
Surveillance Testing Program (respiratory, audiograms, etc.). Certifications for testing will be billed back to company.
Case Coordination for Work-Related Illness/Injury
Training Programs (blood-borne pathogen, first responder, ergonomics, stretching, etc.)
Support Safety Team
Corporate Wellness Support
Lifestyle Wellness Coaching and Programs
Health Maintenance Education (mammogram, colonoscopy, annual exams, and tests)
Helps support the Return-to-Work program with employees, supervisors, physicians, and worker comp carrier
Onsite Registered Nurse
Administration of Flu and Covid vaccines annually.
Providing first aid services to employees as needed.
Assisting in coordination of medical waste management.
Assisting in maintaining workplace Covid plan/guidance.
Assisting in the management of the hearing conservation program.
Assisting in Worker Compensation case load management.
Inventory management of first aid stations.
Setting up worker physicals and respirator clearance.
Setting up vision and hearing exams.
Coordinating Physical Therapy support.
Assisting in ergonomics assessments.
Assisting in selection of ergonomic equipment and PPE.
Assisting in revisions to Emergency Action plans.
Additional Duties can include, but are not limited to:
Basic care for acute concerns (i.e. Earaches, sore throat, infections, rashes, ear lavage, and injuries)
Health coaching for lifestyle-related issues
Assistance with chronic conditions (i.e. Blood pressure / glucose checks)
Education on age-appropriate screenings and tests
Care coordination and navigation
Wellness programs and classes
