JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Provider needed for an established Stabilization Center which provides emergency services for adults who are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol to sober and receive short-term interventions. Under the indirect supervision of the Medical Director and Program Director, and within the scope of their license the nurse practitioner provides an advance level of comprehensive health care services to a specified population of patients needing emergency medical services. Performs physical examinations; establishes diagnosis; prescribes medications; instructs patients about medical conditions and treatment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtains and reviews medical histories on all new patients.
  • Performs medical examinations and establishes preliminary diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and consultation.
  • Provides urgent care, first aid and/or referral to specialists.
  • Orders appropriate medications for chemically dependent patients.
  • Develops a plan of care to meet the medical needs of chemically dependent patients.
  • Provides appropriate evaluation and management for medical detoxification patient emergencies.
  • Provides comprehensive, timely and legible documentation in the medical record including histories, physicals, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Reviews outpatient health history and information and makes appropriate clinical recommendations.
  • Performing psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management of clients
  • Prescribing or recommending medication or other forms of treatment or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Ordering and interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and assess clients’ clinical problems and healthcare needs.
  • Ordering laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures
  • Referring clients to specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Performing crisis intervention
  • Communicating with healthcare professionals, families, and staff members to ensure ongoing quality of delivery of health services.
  • Refers patients to appropriate health professionals as needed.
  • Attends meetings as necessary or required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

** This role requires you to be available on call or work on weekends

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Nurse Practitioner certification in the State of Maryland
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience caring for chemically dependent patients
  • Certification in Basic Life Support required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
  • State DEA – Federal DEA
  • Familiarity with Medication Assisted Treatments.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to review charts on an ongoing basis in preparation for audits and to ensure compliance.
  • Understanding patient care goals and making the patient a major part of his treatment and recovery.
  • Critical thinking and shared decision-making ensure protection of patient’s self-determination.
  • Quality care assurance, following state and nursing guidelines and standards.
  • Educate, support and care for patients receiving medication assisted treatments.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public by using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Personal belief in recovery and the recovery process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, clients, and the public.
  • High energy, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to engage clients flexibly based on their individual needs.
  • Respect for and maintenance of professional boundaries with all individuals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency in reading, understanding, and speaking English.

Background: This position requires successful background and drug test completion

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects more than 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull, and repetitive motions.

The compensation for this position will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of a discretionary annual bonus.
