Job OverviewThe Software Engineer 2, reporting to the Director of Engineering, will be responsible for development and operation of our cloud-based data processing pipelines and visualization tools. These systems receive, process, and manage incoming data from hundreds or thousands of vehicles, delivering telematics and computer vision information to the cloud.
In this role, the Software Engineer 2 will work on MOTER (Mobility On The Edge in Real-time) - our next generation vehicle insurance data platform that integrates edge computing, AI-powered image recognition, and video processing directly on the device.
We are expanding MOTER for deployment across large-scale commercial fleets, building production-ready capabilities in areas such as device software, connectivity, back-end infrastructure, over-the-air (OTA) functionality, and more.
Essential Functions- Develop cloud-based software applications to manage and process high-volume telematics and video data.
- Design, develop and test, secure and highly available full-stack web applications.
- Update, modify, and maintain existing processes related to data management and processing.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, and subject matter experts to design and implement technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve defects in development and production environments.
- Ensure system operations run smoothly and efficiently.
- Oversee system security, identify vulnerabilities, and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors to develop and integrate software supporting key objectives.
- Implement continuous improvements based on new findings and requirements.
- Perform error detection, bug fixes, and verification testing.
- Duties may evolve based on business needs, and additional tasks may be assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required (Master’s degree preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in cloud or server-based application development, particularly in customer-facing applications.
- Strong Java, Python, C++, or C# development experience required.
- Working knowledge of XML, JSON, SOAP, and RESTful APIs
- SQL Relational Database (writing and tuning queries and/or stored procedures)
- Familiarity with Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.)
- Familiarity with the whole web stack, including protocols and web server optimization techniques.
- Experience working in Agile Scrum environments is a plus.
- Experience with AWS cloud-based solutions (e.g., EC2, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, Aurora DB, etc.).
- Experience developing high-volume, data-driven applications is desired.
- Knowledge of software security and consumer privacy’s best practices preferred.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira preferred.
- Experience with automotive telematics or connected car technology is a plus.
- Ability to influence technical design and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective internal and external relationships.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Torrance, CA - Hybrid (Tuesday and Thursday in office)
- For California based hires, the annual salary range is $110,000 - $120,000 depending on experience.
- FLSA Job Status is Exempt
