About OATH
The City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is the nation’s largest administrative tribunal, holding approximately 400,000 trials and hearings a year. As the City’s central, independent administrative law court, OATH adjudicates a wide range of matters filed by nearly every city agency, board and commission. OATH also houses the Center for Creative Conflict Resolution which provides mediation and restorative justice support to City government agencies and the general public, and the Administrative Judicial Institute, a resource center that provides training, continuing education, research, and support services for administrative law judges and hearing officers.

Job Description
OATH is seeking to hire one (1) Administrative Assistant for the Special Education Hearings Division. The Administrative Assistant will assist Special Education Hearing Officers with legal proceedings under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Responsibilities include data entry, document management, communication coordination, preparing confidential materials, scheduling hearings, and other clerical tasks. Only current NYC agency employees at the Principal Administrative Associate level or on the civil service list should apply. The position offers a hybrid/remote schedule after training.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • A baccalaureate degree and three years of relevant clerical/administrative experience, including supervisory experience;
  • An associate degree or 60 credits and four years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience;
  • High school diploma and five years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience;
  • Equivalent education/experience with one year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Skills
Experience with court or tribunal systems, office work, public interaction, excellent communication skills, and volunteer service are preferred.

Additional information includes eligibility for the 55-a Program, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, NYC residency requirements, and the City’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunity. Salary ranges from $53,370 to $61,376 annually.
