I. Position Function SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Crop Manager, the Truck Driver is responsible for safely and effectively transporting farm commodity products from fields to storage facilities.

II. Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities

  • Maintain and comply with USDA standards related to inspection, grading, handling, and shipments, ensuring food safety.
  • Operate equipment such as 10-wheeler trucks, semi-trucks, dump trucks, water tanks, etc., obeying traffic laws and following procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  • Report mechanical problems, vehicle defects, accidents, or traffic violations promptly.
  • Load and unload trucks, maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions, and verify cargo against shipping documents.
  • Maintain records like vehicle logs, cargo records, and scale tickets in accordance with regulations.
  • Read maps, follow geographic directions, and communicate delays or issues to bases or other vehicles.
  • Secure loads and trailers during routes, conduct vehicle inspections and maintenance, and monitor vehicle indicators for safety.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, maintain a daily log, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Keep company vehicles clean and use proper personal protective equipment.

Other Responsibilities

  • Collaborate respectfully with team members and others, providing guidance and resources to customers and clients.
  • Maintain regular attendance, comply with safety policies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Department Job Assignments

This role may include additional duties depending on specific department assignments such as Agronomy, Organic/Conventional Row Crop, etc., involving equipment operation, field treatments, and grounds maintenance.

III. Position Authorities and Accountabilities

This position involves low line responsibility with moderate decision-making authority affecting operations, safety, and resource utilization. It does not have budgetary authority but holds high accountability for equipment and material management.

Independence and Supervision

The Truck Driver works under general supervision, with minimal complex management work and low analysis requirements. No supervisory authority is held, though functional authority over specific projects may exist.
