A 1099 tow truck driver is a self-employed, independent contractor responsible for providing towing and roadside assistance services, managing their own equipment, scheduling, and business operations.

Key duties include:

  1. Responding to calls for disabled or illegally parked vehicles.
  2. Safely operating and maintaining a tow truck.
  3. Securing and transporting vehicles.
  4. Completing paperwork and maintaining strong customer service and communication skills.

Schedule: Availability to work Monday-Friday. No weekends or holidays required!

Vehicle Transportation: Safely operate a tow truck to pick up and transport vehicles that are disabled, damaged, or involved in an accident.

Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections, minor repairs, and cleaning of their own tow truck and equipment.

Paperwork & Documentation: Complete job logs, service reports, and financial paperwork for each tow.

Customer Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients, dispatchers, and emergency personnel.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations during towing operations and while driving.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Light Commercial Class D License or CDL.
  • Strong driving skills, familiarity with towing procedures, basic vehicle mechanics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and time management abilities.
  • Physical stamina for lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with navigation systems and dispatch software.

The "1099" Aspect

  • Self-employed business owner, responsible for own operations and expenses.
  • Receives Form 1099-NEC for income reporting.
  • Flexible schedule, requiring strong work ethic and independence.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with endorsement or CDL.
  • 21+ for interstate, 18+ for intrastate driving.
  • Clean driving record, pass background and drug tests.
  • Ability to operate towing equipment in varied weather.
  • Previous towing or commercial driving experience is a plus.
