Responsibilities

  • Drives a truck equipped with a dump body to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock, and coal.
  • Performs general labor and clean up around the plant.
  • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water.
  • Drives in a safe manner and never operates unsafe equipment.
  • Never runs through water or over rocks in the road or pit.
  • Inspects all dump zones and stockpiles before dumping loads; lowers bed before leaving dump zones.
  • Assists plant operator as needed for repairs and maintenance; contacts plant operator or supervisor for help if problems arise.
  • Loads trucks so that no material is spread on roadways; checks bed for contamination when switching stone sizes.
  • Ensures that the assigned vehicle meets applicable company and governmental guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of stone sizes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all equipment.
  • Knowledge of road patterns.
  • Ability to get a stone sample and dump it for the Quality Control Technician.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
