Responsibilities

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets customers, maintains a friendly and courteous demeanor, treats fellow Associates with respect, and follows company standards for merchandise presentation and cleanliness. The Associate performs a range of tasks across the store as needed to meet customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership
  • Maintain a safe, clutter-free sales floor with clear egress to emergency exits
  • Treat customers and associates with respect; use company recognition programs
  • Assist customers: register-trained, answer questions, greet customers with eye contact and a smile, and thank them at checkout
  • Provide prompt and courteous responses to customer inquiries; respond to service calls and escalate to Store Leadership when needed
  • Represent and support the Ross corporate brand at all times
  • Perform cleaning tasks and replenish restroom supplies; disinfect high-touch areas on the sales floor and in restrooms
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandise items per monthly guidelines
  • Understand Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise
  • Follow MOS policies for merchandise, be vigilant in identifying MOS items, and notify Store Leadership to review disposals
  • Follow policies for cash, check, charge card, refunds, voids, and offline transactions; maintain accuracy with tender handling
  • Demonstrate urgency and maximize productivity by following Store best practices

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with customers, associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PCs as required
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop
  • Ability to push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds (Stockroom associates may require lifting more than 20 pounds)
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies

Compensation and Benefits: The base pay range for this role is $18.81 - $19.31 per hour. The base pay range is dependent on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range is one component of the total compensation package; other rewards vary by position and location.

Associates in stores and Exempt Corporate and Buying Office roles are also eligible for a Bonus based on individual and business performance.
